Let me begin, by admitting I have no idea how this was ultimately accomplished, seriously. I’ve been calculating my own leases over the past 2+ decades the old fashion way, with paper and pencil, and typically my calculations come out spot on or a few bucks discrepant from the dealer. When I say I have no idea how this deal worked out, it’s not so much the monthly payment, but the $0 monies due at signing.
The day before delivery, I esigned all the paperwork, and everything added up regarding the terms, monthly amount, and monies DAS. So during the day of delivery, the business manager gave a short spiel on extra warranties (which I declined), and that was it. The sales guy then went over the car, and setup our phones and the App and eventually wished us farewell. As he was leaving, I said wait, what about the $2800 DAS (i.e., 1st month, $699 doc, $1095 acq fee, $265 TTL), and he says “I think we’re good, but let me go check with the business manager.” He then comes back, and responds, “Nope, we’re good, everything has been covered by the rebates.” Huh??? I had placed a $1k deposit to hold the car, so I was figuring to use my AMEX to pay the remaining $1800 at delivery; however, he then tells me that they will be refunding me that $1k deposit, double huh???…and he then proceeds to say once I get my plate and can get the car registered (I purchased from a neighboring state) to send him the bill and they will cover that too! My wife was with me, and she whispers, “Start the car…start the car!!! Like that old IKEA commercial where the lady is at the cash register ready to buy her items and she is shocked by how low the amount is that she rushes out of the store screaming at her husband in the parking to hurry up and start the car! Lol
Honestly, I’m at a loss regarding the DAS monies, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I get a call from the dealer and/or PFS this week. I mean seriously, how can the lease contract clearly indicate $2800 DAS, and then the customer doesn’t have to pay that? Well somebody must have apparently. That would be like saying the contractual $717 base monthly could be altered. Even if I now subtracted the DAS monies from the Adjusted Cap Cost, the amount is way below the RV, and would not get funded (BTW, thats a discussion for another time). Moreover, the lowered Adjusted Cap Cost (if even possible) would have obviously resulted in a lower base payment of $717, which reportedly did not change.
That said, the only thing I can think of that may have contributed/covered my DAS monies (but makes no sense), was that the dealer punched the warranty on this car back in Dec 2023, we all know to reach end of year goals and get money, but dealer explained it was bc the car was a dealer trade (which is was from a Google search) and the sale fell through but they already punched the warranty at that time. So maybe the dealer applied those monies they made from punching the car? To clarify, this car is new and had 51miles on it. So this all doesn’t pass the smell test IMHO, and I’m glad I still have my Audi RS etron GT in case they come and take the car back!
Speaking of the Audi, this process all started bc my RS GT that I scored last October 2023 (another incredible unicorn deal) is due back in 4mos and I thoroughly have enjoyed the Audi and the $10k single payment. I was hoping to extend the Audi lease, but due to the one-pay and rebates, it would have cost $3k+/mo to extend, yeah okay, that ain’t happening! So then I began thinking of those 12/15k CPO Taycan deals floating around, particularly a 20/21MY Turbo or Turbo S, but ultimately I prefer not to sit in other people’s farts and obsess about minor cosmetic damage, and many of these cars required lots of travel, so that ended that. I love fast German long roofs (wagons), and this CT just looks incredible in IRL. In pics it looks huge and awkward, but it’s absolutely beautiful! And I thought the CT would be enough of a change from the sedan Audi RS GT to keep it fresh. Admittedly, I was concerned with the power difference compared to my RS GT, but this thing can boogey too, although I haven’t pushed it that hard. Then, thanks to the great community here, another member shared their deal for this said car, but ultimately decided it wasn’t for him, and so I then ran with it and negotiated further!
Sorry for being so long winded, but this was another spectacular deal I was able to negotiate, so long as they don’t take it back! Unfortunately, the dealership does not have anymore to replicate the deal. I was very lucky to come across it, bc it is a relatively high optioned 4S, in part with Performance Pack (dynamic chassis control included) to help sort out the weight of this piggie, which was a must for me.
This morning, I gave it a quick detail, and paint work/interior look great (does need to be fully clayed), only a few minor marks/hard water stains that I will eventually address. Standard interior is honestly a bit underwhelming compared to my full leather in the RS GT, but I’m not complaining. 25% tint is already scheduled for next month.
Now if history is any indication, I’m likely to get an itch for a change around the 13-14mo mark, so I’ll be sure to post up here if I plan to transfer the lease. I have no doubt it would go quickly!
Thanks for reading, and keep on hacking!
