I spend a lot of time reading the postings on this site and the tactics used to achieve hacker worthy deals, and I think I did well.
After a week or so of shopping around online and via email, I went into a Volvo dealer that was sitting on a few like equipped S60’s, sat down with a sales person and told her what I was interested in paying. $45,000 for a S60 with a $57,000 MSRP. She told me “not a chance, I’m not giving up my commission for you.”
As a point of reference, my previous best offer was $47,000, but I had a target in mind.
Later in the day I received an email that the can sell it at that price. I did a little digging and found that Volvo has an additional $500 Labor Day Cash Incentive, so I lowered my offer accordingly to $44,500. This morning they accepted my offer and I signed the paperwork. Picking up the car next week.
To sweeten the deal for me, I am using Volvos Pull-Ahead Program to take me out of my 2017 S90 with 9 months remaining.
I am not sure that I would have been able to do much better than a 22% discount including incentives. (11.8% without incentives)
