Signed a lease, SUV not picked from dealer, MF went down and discount added - what are my choices to reduce lease rate

,

Fun fact the one bad survey I got this month makes me bonus ineligible for the month. That is thousands of dollars for the month. AND it is during one of the busiest months. The second I got hit, I immediately canceled 8 deals and put in for a week of vacation. Surveys run this business.

You’re right about OP.

I just meant in general.

Honestly sounds like a shitty business. One has to wonder why anyone would go into a forward facing role that has so many risks. Of course there are those who like the challenge, I suppose, in making deals happen and trying to resolve conflicts in the most appropriate way that benefits all parties. Then there are those who would rather brush away the business to mitigate the risk. As a consumer, I definitely prefer the former even if the outcome is not favorable to me. The effort is always appreciated. The lack of effort from someone who is supposed to sell me something is extremely aggravating.

But congrats on your near perfect record. I’m sure you are successful but the way you come off, especially in this thread with regard to the OP, seems to certainly give off anti-consumer vibes.

a mildly annoyed customer might give you an 8/10. In volvo world its the same as a 1.
When I got into the business back in the 1st Obama administration (wow that makes me sound old), CSI did not count for almost HALF of our compensation.

I do not understand how giving a customer your very best price is “lack of effort” but hey do you!

So the problem is with Volvo then? Don’t take this the wrong way but you definitely sound like the soup nazi of car sales lol

Correct. I am just trying to understand the options. I am NOT backing out of deal. I am new to LH and like it as I hate haggling for price. I think the month end process was too pushy. A part of me (may be I am wrong) thinks broker know that prices are going down next month but I also assume they get sweeter end of month commission from the dealer (I may be wrong again). Everyone wants to make money and get a good deal. I was expecting the dealer to be little considerate.

Anyways you learn and this is my first LH purchase. Hopefully more.

Thanks for all the inputs.

Broker does not make any money from the dealer. They make money from your broker fee.
Also broker and not even the dealer has access to next months numbers.

Not just with volvo. Look at Nissan and their IITB program. The OEMS want that perfect survey score. I would love to use surveys as honest feedback to get better at my craft. Thats not how it works.

You can face disciplinary action, including: getting written up, getting suspended from work without pay, forfeiting bonuses, and even termination for a bad survey.

I had 3 meetings with upper management over ONE bad survey. I will have to answer to ownership about it at our monthly review meeting.

Thanks for clarifying.

Uh where did you get this info from? Most brokers get between $500 and $1000 PER DEAL from the dealer in the form of bird dog checks.

Only in certain states. Unfortunately, we get breadcrumbs down here. All while battling Boardwalk pigeons that try to take those scraps from us by misleading customers.

500-1000 in bird dogs? I need to start selling Volvos!

I get between $0 and $100 with my Toyota dealers. 90% are $0. Never got a dime from Kia…

Those “anonymous” surveys from the dealer are not anonymous at all. I left my honest feedback for the service department at a Hyundai dealership once, after a multiple negative visits I finally had enough, and they asked me about it on my next visit and refused to take my car in for service lol.

When I got my Accord years ago the pickup experience was a nightmare. After three hours I said screw it, give me the car with an empty gas tank and not detailed. I wasn’t even that concerned about the tank of gas or detail but wish they hadn’t kept lying to me about the car being almost ready.

However, I gave the salesman a perfect survey since detail issue wasn’t his fault and I didn’t want to screw him over. However I did write an email to him and dealership leadership expressing displeasure. The next week the salesman brought me a 50 dollar gas gift card. He was so happy I had expressed discontent via email rather than in the survey.

If we’re talking >$100/mo., then it’s about $4K of value up front. OP, I’d offer to split the difference with the dealer to rewrite the deal in July. A win/win.

How is this is a win for the dealer and broker? Customer signed a deal, presumably understanding that the following’s month’s program could get better or worse. He felt the deal was good enough that he signed legal documents agreeing to the terms. Now he wants to renegotiate the deal. Definitely not a win/win.

Here is another way of looking at this situation. If you believe the OP has the right to renegotiate or terminate his deal simply because he hasn’t picked up the car, then why shouldn’t every LH sign multiple deals on the last few days of the month? Maybe sign a deal on the 28th, then see if you can find a better deal. Sign another one on the 29th. Maybe sign 2 on the 30th if you can find dealers trying to close out the month. Once the dust settles on the 1st of the month, decide which deal you like better and just don’t pick up the other 3. Better yet, if the deals get better in the next month, cancel all 4 leases and start over.

Several have defended OP as having a good attitude about the situation. I agree that appears to be true. However, I don’t think it matters whether you approach the request with a good attitude or not. OP hasn’t posted that he decided not to pursue the issue and he has not posted an update that the issue has been resolved. I therefore assume he is still pursuing some consideration from the dealer (rewriting lease in July, canceling lease, refund, etc). No matter how nice you ask, you are trying to undo an agreement that both parties entered into with full knowledge and in good faith. He may “technically” be able to unwind but, as explained in the example above, that doesn’t make it right. He is putting the dealer/broker in an unfair situation…unwind the June deal and potentially screw up their June targets/bonuses or try to enforce the deal and have an unhappy customer.

Again, just my opinion.

It’s my understanding, from the discussion above, that the July programs from BMWFS improved to the tune of (all else equal) >$100/mo. I suppose BMWFS will “lose” if they redo the deal in July, but the dealer and OP should come out better. Broker would still get his same fee. If this ends up being more work for the broker, throw him a bone, too.

The rest of your post doesn’t apply to my comment as I said nothing about the “right to renegotiate”. I’d simply ask the dealer. They may not want to play if there’s more money in a June threshold bonus that this deal alone creates.

On my way to pick up. I was hoping something from the dealer but broker says it is a done June deal. I just wanted the feedback from the group as this was my first deal on LH. One can learn from these feedbacks.

Few nasty DMs but alas that is internet for you. One has to learn from these.

Cheers

Glad to hear you are picking up the car. Even though it stings a bit now, I think you will later feel better about going through with the agreed upon deal. And remember that the dealer may not have offered the same discount with the July lease program.

Enjoy the iX…awesome car.

@Pradeep_C was great to work with and we got him this deal on the last day of June

Dealer had already RDR’d it and sent docs to notary for signatures which arrived around July 6th because of the holiday.

Customer signed, dealer received it back, and deal got funded. 2 days later, BMW drops pricing and there was nothing that can be done because the car is technically already his just awaiting pickup

I spoke to the extremely friendly GM and he said nothing can be done in situations like this. The car is already in the customer’s name once it’s funded.

Thank you!
