Hi all,
With ZDX inventory high and demand low and with NJ EV incentives getting worse at end of month, I began my outreach and had the ZDX in my driveway a few days later with little issue and not a whole lot of work involved.
I am located in NJ and corresponded with every dealer but one (because they never got back to me) as well as one or two out-of-state. I had done my research and understood what I was comfortable paying but more importantly what I wanted to pay. Given the great benefits with one-pay, I was likely to utilize it as as I have in the past but didn’t need to divulge that until we agreed on a price.
I had dealers all over the place, some insisting my ask was insane and laughing at me while others pretty quickly offering their best price upfront which wasn’t terribly far off and appreciating my transparency (and I theirs). I detailed exactly what I was looking for, that I didn’t need this vehicle right now, but that I could pull the trigger immediately if need be. I was looking for $0 down and $0 DAS and, after the math was done, my goal payment was around $530 per month. About 4 or 5 dealers quickly got to around $590. One agreed to $533 pretty quickly to my surprise and had the color combination my wife wanted. I agreed and emailed the terms to them to confirm so as to ensure we were on the same page and they called me later that night apologizing because they had made an error and had done their numbers based on the lower A Spec, not the Type S I wanted. I was early in the process still, so I didn’t think anything of it, told them no problem, and hung up. They called back later that night and again the next morning offering to go through with the deal regardless, and I took them up on it.
As such, this is not reproduceable. You’ll also see that with the numbers below from my contract, they don’t quite make sense nor jive with my own numbers when doing my math ahead of time. Clearly, the dealer massaged a lot to get this done.
That said, given the number of dealers that hit $590 so quickly, my gut told me I probably could have gotten the vehicle for $565 to $570 per month ultimately (again, $0 down and $0 DAS).
Thanks again to everyone on this forum. The data and insights are invaluable when working through options.
