Transferred out of my M340i xDrive a couple of weeks ago and started itching for something new when I heard about the loyalty rebates for May. Never had a convertible and thought it would be nice to have one for the summer. Looked into the Z4 sDrive30i, but decided I’d rather spend the extra cash to have the B58 straight-6, which I loved in the M340i. I regret nothing — it feels even better in this lighter RWD chassis, and the sound is intoxicating with the top down.
Probably could have gotten a little more than the ~12.7% pre-incentive discount I negotiated with a few more phone calls and emails, but this dealer was local and offering remote signing. This is a base car (just $550 metallic paint and the $250 moonlight black top that is somehow on every car), but the M40i already comes standard with a heated wheel, heated seats, and adaptive dampers. I really wanted the 19" Style 800M cerium grey wheels, which are a bargain at $600, but it looks like dealers only order them on higher-spec cars.
All in all, I’m happy with the car. The Pilot Super Sports were having some traction issues with the 40-degree weather (and snow) here in NJ today, but that’s to be expected. Hopefully I can swap out of this car in a few months without too much fanfare.

Congrats! Nice car. Do you mind sharing which dealer you got this deal from? We are trying to get a Z4 M40i in the DC area and we are not getting anywhere near the 12% discount. We wouldn’t mind a trip to NY/NJ/PA if it means substantial savings.
It really just comes down to if you need the practicality of the M340i and whether or not you’re willing to pay a little more for the Z4. The M340i is a great car - fast, good on gas (if you can keep your foot out of it), and it handles well. The Z4 is pretty much the same, but with a lighter chassis, better steering feel, a louder exhaust, fatter and stickier tires, and a much nicer shape. In terms of cost, the Z4 would probably cost about $100 per month more than an equivalent deal on the M340i.
Another factor is whether or not you need the optional AWD on the M340i. The Z4 only comes on summer tires, so that’s something you’d need to consider based on location / if you plan on daily driving the car.
So funny I’m in the same boat as you… I’ve looked all up and down the east coast for a blue on black Z4 M40i with the 19inch 800M wheels too haha. Literally Can’t find a single one, ANYWHERE… I see a lot of the black wheels but nothing with the 19 800’s.
Finally got a broker/dealer that said they’d order me a 2021 when they come in but I’d be missing out on the $1000 BMW FS rebate going on right now and who knows what the mf/residual will be on those…
Beautiful car. Funny enough, the shortlist for my next car is either the Z4 M40, M340, M3 (If out and decent enough lease by December), X3 M40 and X3M.
BMW has a variation of these cerium grey wheels for most, if not all, of its M Performance models now (Style 792Ms for the M340i, for instance), but dealers just do not order them for some reason. Pretty annoying given how good they look.
I don’t think that’s it - when I was shopping for M340is, plenty had 19" wheels, but the Style 791M or Style 793 models. The one I ended up getting had 791s.
On a somewhat related note, I ended up having to swap out the tires after 4,000 miles because four bubbles had somehow accumulated (on three tires, with one tire having two bubbles). Hate runflats with a burning passion.
all The M340’s come with 19’s if they have the Msport package right? I could be totally wrong. I haven’t shopped for the m340’s but my 17 340 I think only came with 19’s with the packages I chose.
Alsoooooo - Are you insinuating that the runflat tires are more likely to develop bubbles? If so I totally believe it because I’ve had to replace 9 tires over the last 3 years because of pot holes.
Nope, M340i comes with 18" wheels standard. No M Sport for the M340i since it already has anything that would be bundled in an M Sport package.
And yes — in my experience, runflats are more prone to bubbling because of the harder sidewall. They’re also noisier and ride like crap. I’m very glad BMW doesn’t offer the Z4 with any all-seasons or runflats, only Pilot Super Sports.
I took off the runflats for my winter wheels on my 340 and I got 3 flats all at once in the Bronx. Had to gte a flatbed to get the car. Hahha I put the runflats RIGHT back on.
