No, you do not need to get your oil changed at a Acura dealer. That’s all the maintenance you’re going to need, aside from a few times rotations, but many big tire chains do those for free, and have decent price on an oil change, so go there. Also try Honda dealer, usually cheaper oil change then Acura. Many Acura dealers offer your first year of maintenance or two oil changes free, so look for a letter in the mail. And don’t get your first oil change at exactly 6 months or when the light goes on-the dealer software will recognize that you haven’t been in on schedule and may spit out a promo offer.
i received a quote for $389 inc tax with $1k down for a 2020 base model Mdx ($45xxx)and almost $550 per month for this same car w/tech($51xxx) here in socal.
During black Friday and end of nov i noticed some Socal Acura and Honda dealers were offering free oil changes for 3yr/36m. Maybe potential lessees can wait til end of month and propose that before pulling the trigger on a new lease.
Fyi: I take my wife’s lexus rx350 to toyota for service. We probably save at least 30% each time we go in for any type of service.
The synthetic oil change is less than $100 at toyota vs over $200 at lexus.
I think for a potential recall/warranty service then you are required to see an acura dealer but for routine maintenance you can goto any trusted shop.
I was worried if doing service at 3rd party will cause issue if lease contract says otherwise (haven’t received the contract in mail yet…). So thanks for the tips! the dealer told me I will get 1st service for free, whatever the service it is.
The business manager at dealership also tried to persuade me to buy damage protection package which I refused. Any tip on if I should buy 3rd party protection plan?
No, the Magnuson-Moss Act prohibits car manufacturers, or any manufacturer of products from voiding warranties if the consumer uses 3rd party parts, and as an extension taking it to a 3rd party mechanic. This is called the “tie in provision”.
“The business manager at dealership also tried to persuade me to buy damage protection package which I refused. Any tip on if I should buy 3rd party protection plan?”
Be wary of anyone at a car dealership trying talk you into buying anything other than a car.
Acura FS is excellent on their end of lease charges. An Acura Luxury Lease includes a $750 Excessive Wear-and-Use or Damage Waiver. Loyal clients may qualify for an additional waiver and may be eligible for a turn-in fee waiver. Total Excessive Wear-and-Use or Damage Waiver amount not to exceed $1,500. So, you’d need a hell of a lot of chi & dings and stains ($750) to even get the first dollar back on that deal, let alone exceed whatever price they wanted to charge for the damage package; and if you lease another Acura that’s $1500 worth of wear & tear you have in your back pocket. Furthermore, if you did have $1500+ worth of damage it’s likely the result of a single incident (i.e, a fender bender) in which case you are going to file insurance claim anyway. So, I’m dubious as it what, exactly that damage package covers and under what circumstances an AFS customer would ever use it (It’s borderline fraudulent that they would sell you something for which you are already covered.)
Obviously, always take your car to a authorized dealer for warranty or recall service–not only is it ‘free’, but it’s either required by law or by your lease agreement/warranty, plus the factory trained and certified techs are experts, after all…you don’t need to be factory certified to change oil or tires.
Once the finance manager tries to sell you something you are not sure of or do not want and/or if you are clearly informed on the service/product ( or at least think you are) just politely decline and say “is it OK if we sleep on it and we will contact your dealer tomorrow and purchase if we decide to do so thank you”
The finance managers job is to recoup the money that they lost on the deal or pile it on
