Dealership was out of loaners so ended up with a Chevrolet Trax from a neighboring rental car agency. For $22-25K, it was pretty impressive. Heated seats and steering wheel, good midrange punch from the engine, and light/agile handling. Rear seat room was pretty close to my wife’s Outback with the car seats in it as well. Could do a lot worse than this for a commuter… blows an Ecosport out of the water.
One way rental. Picked up from Chicago budget city location. Used Costco travel for booking. Reserved premium. Was offered this Cadillac ct5 or Toyota Tacoma. Not a terrible car, it felt like a premium Chevrolet Malibu.
Another Hyundai Kona EV rental in SoCal. Told by staff at pick up that car was at 90% and no need to charge before return. So I did all the driving I needed and returned the Kona with 20% charge. $110 for three days and no charging cost. Very convenient to not hassle with charge level.
I get the impression from pick up and drop off staff that they dislike EVs and don’t want to mess with any charging issues. The Kona is rather bland but makes a decent rental especially without having to charge.
“Would you like a Ram 2500 or a Tahoe?”
They told me that they only had 12 cars on the lot and this appeared to be the only Ram, so this was the runner-up.
No pics, but I had a Mazda CX5 (had to look at interior pics to figure out what the hell it was after the fact) as a rental out of PBI thru National last week.
My main annoyance was that they essentially lock you out of using the touch screen at all if the car is moving, even in CarPlay. I thought I was going crazy when I programmed it while I was in park, and then couldn’t tap on Spotify while moving, I was thinking to myself “how could this have broken in the last 10 minutes”. Then, I parked the car, it started working again, and I put two and two together. Other than that and being incredibly slow, seemed pretty okay.
The Mazda wheel in the center is surprisingly nimble in place of a touch screen
Is that Hertz? Hertz DFW had so many brand new 2500s all nicely equipped
Yes, Hertz at VPS (Destin, FL).
This is a loaner car from my local MB dealer. It’s a fairly new E350 4matic with a $70K MSRP and it drives like a cheap rental car. No acceleration and it’s 4-banger sounds like a lawnmower. Luckily, I’m not going far, so I won’t need to stop in any gas stations. Posting this where it belongs, EQ drivetrain is superior in every way.
Was in Atlanta for the NCAA National Championship and expected that Avis would have even less than zero due to the media and fan crush in town for the game. Actually had a pretty good selection.
Had the new Jeep Compass Limited with only 689 miles on the clock…for about 200 feet. TPMS warning almost immediately with what was a slow leak. Almost like it had to be reset after parked and then TPMS updated at 200 feet. Was actually not bad inside and seemed to be updated to at least 2019/2020 on the interior so that was a bonus.
Helpful Avis guy was flagged down and got me into a new GMC Acadia Elevation with only 382 miles on the clock. Also surprisingly nice inside with leather and with a similar circa 2019 interior as well.
Drive was acceptable in the city and on the highway. Not sure why anyone would buy either one, but for a rental they worked and the interiors were far better than most GMC/Chevy and Jeep products I have been in for the last few years as rentals. 3 class upgrade with Costco on both, dirt cheap at 4 days for +/- $190 or so.
Agree w the 4 banger sounding/feeling like shit. But this thing exceeds any EQ, by miles, in the looks department.
