The Dell 24s are widescreens. I believe 2408WFP is the model. The brightness is fine; it’s the lack of sharpness for text and white balance is never right even when calibrated with an xRite calibration device that bugs. It just doesn’t look right compared to IPS screens. The arms will definitely do 27s as it was able to support the monstrous Dell 30" previously although it was probably at its weight limit. Getting new monitors is the easy part. The slippery slope of, “Might as well get a new video card” is creeping in since the GTX690 only has one mini-DP port. The rest are DVI-D which most newer monitors don’t seem to have anymore although doing DVI-D > HDMI would be okay up to a certain resolution and refresh rate.
Yes, it is thinkorswim. The setup definitely gets the job done now with the two secondary monitors in it’s current state. Just need some clarity for text. How do you like bbg?
BBG is great. I think ToS is by far one of the best “free” platforms out there.
The thing BBG for me is paid for by my firm, although depending upon how much size you’re moving, it could be worth paying for. As you know, success in this industry is measured in the milliseconds…and BBG excels in that category.
75 for non serious rts and FPS is fine. Ultrawides are frowned upon in the competitive e sports community for a variety of reasons, panel lag, lower refresh rate, FOV, and aspect ratio issues.
Most professional FPS gamers I know in Fortnite (one discord friend made top 10 in his World Cup qual a bit back), rainbow six siege (ex teammates are now professional coaches or players… were now, but that’s an ESL FaceIT story for tmrw), and CSGO like stretched aspect ratios. It makes movement faster, but a larger shorter and wider target to hit. Ultrawides make that more difficult with their FOV and panel lag, so are frowned upon.
75 to 120 or 144 hz is a huge jump. I recommend anyone doing anything remotely gamerish use a 120/144, and 240 if they can support/afford. It makes the experience much better. Pro tip btw, 240hz is a noticeable improvement, especially when doing flicks, building, and when ramp, cone, or just speed boosting and jumps in general. However, make sure your pc can actually output those frames.
Curious if anyone has a Zero Gravity recliner (not just those zg lawn chair)? I’m looking at the Human Touch Perfect Chair, the HT Gravis, or the Svago that strikes me as a copy of the Gravis. Will be primarily a work chair (not a tv lounger), in addition to standing or sitting in the Aeron while I work.
Now that I’m getting settled into the new house, I’m definitely in need of a new desk. The left over, small ikea desk I’m using right now is a bit overwhelmed with monitors. Wish I had the time to just make one, but I’ll probably use some cabinets/shelves as bases and get a big butcherblock slab to cut down to size.
Some of the hardwood reflections branded stuff was on my short list of considerations. I definitely want something more than 5’ wide, but that’s ok, there are other options. I wish I could see them in person before ordering, but it’s still a better choice than the IKEA thick laminate countertops that are roughly the same price.
Have you looked at Ekornes Stressless? I found a matching set (!) on Craigslist in really good condition (!!!) for about 1/3 of what I would’ve paid retail. I don’t know much about recliners, so I’m not familiar w/ the brands you’ve listed. I really like the Ekornes.
