Should you purchase Land Rovers Tire and Wheel Protection Plan when Leasing?

Hi Hackers,

Thoughts on Land Rovers Wheel and Tire protection plan on a lease? I looked it up online and each dealers descriptions vary slightly. Ive provided one example below. The price we were quoted was $1440.00 / 3 years. Lots of talk about other services like road side assistance and towing and other services generally covered by AAA, credit cards, insurance and Land Rovers VIP. What isnt clear, is if Curb Rash and other rim damage is covered and instead defaults to “accidental” which seems like it could be interpreted many different ways and if curb damage etc was covered, wouldnt it be spelled out?

Anyhow, any thoughts, experiences and advice greatly appreciated!

TIRE & WHEEL PROTECTION PLAN

A flat tire can leave you feeling deflated. It’s a good thing Tire and Wheel Road Hazard Protection provides coverage in the event of damage to your tires or wheels as a result of road hazards such as metal, nails, glass, debris, potholes, blowouts and others.

Key Features

  • Repairs or replaces flat tires or wheels due to road hazard.
  • No limit on claim benefits; covers replacement tires and wheels for duration of term.
  • No mileage limitations.
  • Taxes, labor costs, mounting, balancing fees and valve stems are covered.
  • Zero deductible.

How much are your tires brand new ? Have you had experience with flats before with your commute ?

Need to research tire cost but I would never purchase tires from a dealer…unsure of market price

No flats general

Surprising but at least around me the dealers are fairly competitive with all but the Costco/Sams specials for tires.

Besides tires ours covers cosmetic rim damage (curbs, etc) and rim replacement (after pothole, for instance), spelled out on the contract. Rims on Rovers and other imports are not cheap.

So at what price point do such plans make sense or do they not if rim damage coverage isn’t part of it?

$1440 is a good price for that product. Similar programs are often around $2000 at many luxury dealers.

Awaiting clarification on what is truly covered etc and what is the specific rim coverage Others have said it’s on the expensive side , so just trying to see when it makes sense as others have also said that you don’t recognize the value while others say you do…so just trying to sort through

I bought it when I got my LR4. Never had any tire issues. The only thing I used it for was when I would scraped my rims on curbs etc. That would send the car to a local rim repair shop to buff it out. I bet I would have saved a lot of money just going to the rim shop myself. I wouldn’t have bought it again.

Refinishing a wheel is about 150-200 plus mounting costs.

Agreed. I would skip it and bank the money for curb rash repairs.

If you decide you want it, and they hit at $1400, cost is probably 500-700. I would tell them you did the math and for $750 it’s worth it otherwise nah. They might come to $800s (fine) but should be a hard pass at $1000. Many F&I folks are paid on product margin but their bonus is based on what % of deals buy products. They’ll often take a cost + few bucks to keep their penetration rate higher.

I’m beating their price by 40% :ok_man:

and it covers the same thing…

Just FYI, cost is nowhere close to 500-700 on luxury imports. Much higher, with any provider

Got clarification on price and coverage. Cost is 1400 discounted from 1680 and the comment on coverage was:

"The package literally covers anything that can go wrong with your wheels and tires. Road rash, check! Scraps and scratches, check! Pot hole damage and bent rim, check! If you get a nail in the tire, covered. You will get a brand new tire if we can’t plug it. So you get total protection for your tires. "
