If you dont know the answer before you walk in, you should walk out.
BMW iX 50e?
Yes that’s correct
I don’t know what you mean by that. I’m asking people who have experience and can help me decide if this is a good deal.
Im saying that by going into the dealer without already knowing the answer as to what is a good deal and what you’re trying to negotiate to, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Rather than try to get opinions from people while youre at the dealership, you should leave and better prepare yourself so that you start your next dealer interaction from a solid position.
Thanks for your reply. You’re right. I should have an amount in mind which I did but they turned it down. I see a wide range in quotes on Reddit and people recommended I post here because of the combined expertise of everyone on this forum.
We do BMWs and we do a lot, lot, lot better than this. Shoot me a text: 1 (949) 232-4468
Part of what Matt is trying to say is that LH’ers have a tried & true method of negotiating, including a calculator that lays out all variables. Being a super supporter is a good start!
One if the main ideas as mentioned above is to establish what kind of deal is possible and present that as an offer to a dealer via email. It’s never advised to go talk numbers at the dealer. It lets a dealer set the starting point for negotiations which is typically a high point so once you get them down $38 month you are under the impression you won, when it’s still a crappy deal and should have been $125 month less from the start all variables being equal.
On the main LH page, there is a leasing 101 and a calculator tutorial to walk you through it all. It’s going to take a little bit to grasp it all, especially all the variables. As I like to phrase it sometimes, the lease equation is like that college algebra class that was pretty annoying. All the variables have to line up in order to get a good deal. It takes a combination of a decent dealer discount, decent rv, good mf, incentives, and possibly any rebates to get there. Tax rate is going to be up to where you register the vehicle.
The people on Reddit may be leaving things out of their post, like a DAS amount which can skew the monthly payment. That’s part of why I would advise against comparisons to there, and recommend posting a calculator link here so we can see what your target offer is. Short of that several BMW brokers and I believe one dealer in CA are active on here in the marketplace section with plenty of options for comparison.
No, you should have a well-researched target deal put together based on pre-incentive discount values determined by comparing against shared deals/broker listings/etc and the lease programs as they apply to your situation.
That’s a very different statement than looking at some quotes from others and trying yo be somewhere around there.
Understanding why the payment is what it is and how that applies to you will make a huge difference in being effective at getting a good deal.
If you ever are looking at a dealer quote, wondering if it is a good deal, you have got ahead of yourself.
Frankly, there’s no reason to look at a dealer quote ever. You should be driving the negotiations, not asking them how much they want you to pay.
Such a good point! Can you share your thoughts around how we should go about researching the pre-incentives and structure the deal? Perhaps an example would be super useful for the OP and lease newbie’s like me.
Use the shared deals and broker listings here to work out a reasonable pre-incentive discount target. Use ratefindr to determine the current rv/mf/incentives. Use the calculator here to combine that data into a target deal.
Once you have a target deal established, start making unambiguous, immediately actionable offers to dealers on specific units you’re interested in. Understand that the majority will say no to your offer, and that’s ok.
Thank you SO much for taking the time to share all this useful information! I have been completely overwhelmed comparing deals but I will do some studying and play around with the calculator so I know when I walk into a dealership next what I should expect.
Thanks so much for your thorough response to my question! You and the rest of the contributors here have given me some great information to educate myself on.
