Shipping wheels + tires?

Hi all, curious to know if anyone has shipped wheels/tires. I have a set I need to ship from NJ -Boulder and a search shows at minimum $750…

Anyone know of reliable company that won’t break the bank? Ideally would love to drop them off and they handle the pallet etc…

Thanks!

You could try and put it on www.uship.com and see what results you get. It’s pretty much a portal for shipments like this.

Ancient times people used Greyhound to ship wheels for cheap. Check if it still exists.

Thanks, both! Will give those a look

I fedex-ed wheels and cost me about $150. 4 wheels no tires
You can use the large boxes from Home Depot and then ship the wheels. The tires you can seperate and ship individually too. There are guide on how to do it.

I did this about 2 months ago and it cost about $350 with insurance (rims and tires) from IL to FL… Put cardboard on either side and secured it. Luckily our parts department was able to save me about $100 on shipping. I could see it be stupid expensive now to ship these across the country with gas prices.

Through FedEx like Calvin mentioned? I’ll stop by our local FedEx and ask them the best way to get it done.

I did FedEx since that is what our parts department uses. Get a quote from both UPS and FedEx online.

The best way is to get find someoen with a corporate discount because standard Fedex ship places will be extremely expensive.

  1. the FedEx store is in the business of selling packing services as much as shipping, so DIY and save money there
  2. My AmEx offers always has 10-20% off shipping at the FedEx store, but you can often generate the label and ship online cheaper than the retail rate. The lowest rate I’ve found was by generating the shipping label through eBay on something I sold there

It’s often not cost effective to ship wheels mounted with tires across long distances, because it basically doubles the weight and thus the cost.

Often better to buy a mounted set locally or ship just the wheels.

But if you must have these, then check a VAG forum for hacks. Like VWVortex or Audizine. Doubt anybody trades more wheels than those guys.

Thanks, all. These are my wheels and tires someone wants to buy and have them shipped. I’d much prefer local sale but am willing to ship if it’s not a PIA.

I’ll check the suggestions everyone made. So far uship bids are all over $900 haha.

Years ago I had a paid of Mercedes shipped cross country on greyhound. Ended up being remarkably cheap. They just toss em under the bus if there’s room.
