Impulsively purchased a bolt with the used ev credit in January. Growing to hate it and want to offload it. Is there any timeframe within which I can/cant sell the car stipulated by taking the credit?
ChatGPT says you gotta keep the car for 2 years if you don’t want to repay the credit.

Damn that is crazy (not the 2 years).
In the case of a resale made by the buyer within 30 days of placing the vehicle in service, the buyer is treated as having purchased the vehicle with an intent to resell and cannot claim a Previously Owned Clean Vehicle Credit with respect to the vehicle. Such vehicle was already placed in service by a taxpayer, and a Previously Owned Clean Vehicle Tax Credit is not available to a subsequent buyer.
This is the only related thing I could find on the IRS site…
Yeah, I searched the actual rules myself and I don’t see those restrictions either.
I tried using Perplexity Pro, which states something similar, that there’s no limit, essentially as long as you can prove to the IRS (if audited/checked) that it wasn’t purchased for resale.

I feel like such a boomer being blown away by these AI answers lol
Ha, it’s just about knowing which tools there are really. Sometimes I use Claude as well, each AI tool has its pros and cons, no clear definitive winner. I pay for GPT4 and use the free Perplexity Pro tools.
And of course you gotta deal with hallucinations (AI believing it’s got the right answers when it just made it up), there’s certainly a bit of a break in period. But these tools are just so much more powerful than Google. I think I’ve maybe halved my Google searches nowadays, it’s just a shopping search site now.
