Rivian R2 SUV announcement expected on March 7

,

I am leaning towards the dual motor AWD trim. I hope they release more specs for the motors (horsepower and torque rating).

I just finished watching that video.

The R3 is definitely more in my wheelhouse where I see the R2 being the perfect vehicle for my wife who absolutely adores her Tiguan.

R3 looks great. Half orginal VW golf / Lada Nivea.

Are we all reserving both R2s & R3s?

I reserved 2 R2’s. The R3 looks like an Ioniq5. I’ll probably reserve one when allowed. Lol

The R3 is the first EV I have ever looked at and wanted.

At a minimum, Rivian is getting a massive interest free loan from this. Win win.

R3 to me looks like a Lancia Delta Integrale side profile. Which is not a bad thing.

No reservations yet for the R3. Just the R2 for now.

Keep one and flip the other?

Reserved a R2 because why not, but the R3 and R3X is really what I’d want. Love the retro Italian 80s styling.

I’m starting to like the smaller R3. The R3X could be a fun weekend car.

I see the R3 as an enthusiasts play, that loses steam/interest as we get closer to the debut. I dont think the average american will like the hatchback look. I think the R2 is exactly what it should be and will likely be a huge hit. Boxy, associated looks with an expensive model (R1), and probably +/-$50K for the 4WD.

Biggest issue here is 2026 debut for R2. That’s a long time and they laid out their blueprint for all the competition coming online.

My RIVN Jan 17 2025 calls are up 37.77% since this post was made, I feel like we’re doing OK. @jeb

Congrats! Now hold it until Q4 2024 results as you originally planned.

I don’t like the fact they paused construction plans for Georgia plant and gave no timeline when they will begin construction. Yes the R2 is said to be the vehicle that saves Rivian. But that factory was a huge part of it. The Normal factory max capacity is 150k, R1 capacity is currently at 65k. Rivian needs volume to survive.

They can probably trade R1T volume for R2 since the demand is dying down on the truck, especially the quad motor and other higher priced trims…

Initial Georgia factory capacity was said to be 200k out of the gate, with another 200k coming online down the road. Selling at Model Y prices, they will need that volume to make a positive profit margin. Rivian is going to need more money, that Georgia plant is crucial to their existence beyond a couple years. Manufacturing R2 in Normal seems like a forced stopgap measure, rather than something they had wanted to do.
