Rivian lease - help!

Apologies for not being able to figure out the calculator, and not sure if I have all the info required but I am using a pre-order benefit on a Rivian and yet I dont think the deal is very good. Can anyone help me analyze this?
btw, although I wanted a Rivian I don’t ‘need’ a truck and am not going to accept a bad deal when their are others available (must be EV).

Trade in is a Tesla model 3 with $5,339 equity.
Also my $1000 initial deposit.

The money factor at 0.00345 seems way higher than anything I am seeing here.

I would be happy to take a BMW i4, or Lucid as an alternative and the BMW deals look good.
btw I may be moving to California in a few months where there are many deals!

thank you!
Paul

I’m looking at the Rivian deals, too. It looks like you have a monthly cost of $733? I also havent gotten the calculator to always work out. When I try to calculate yours, even the 63% RV doesnt equate to $50,589. And with the MF, I was getting 1000$/month for your deal details.

The way that I was trying to find a comparison was to look at other leases that are in the general price range. Would you consider driving a Volvo Ex90 or Xc40? The max on an Xc40 is about 61k for the ultimate. The Ford F150 Lariat Lightning is about 79k, which is closer to your vehicle cost.

What I have been seeing when I look at things is that the Rivian leases are across the board more expensive than compatibles. But it is also a stretch to say that these vehicles are comparable. If you are only looking to get a good deal, I dont think that Rivian is the best deal out there. When I’m looking at an R1S at around 1000+ per month, a BMW iX is coming in at 800 per month. The BMW is coming in at a lower RV, MF, MSRP:

Purchase Price: $86,020 (12% off MSRP)
Residual Value: $51,807 (53%)
Money Factor: 0.00002 (0.05% APR)
Rebate: $9,900

I think that dealers are more able to flex on the prices. I think that right now Rivian just had deals on the 2023 and 2024 models and sold/leased those off at deals. Now we are in the 2025 Gen2 space where they are not willing to lose out on those just yet. Were at the beginning of Q4, so they are not offering friends and family discount. All signs point to right now is not a good time to lease a Rivian, unless you really want a Rivian and dont care about the added cost to lease or buy it. But I could be wrong about the trucks.

Looking at a comparable Ford F150 Lariat, perhaps it is worth it for the R1T. This Texas deal is ~900$/month for the F150 Lariat Lightning. I think the actual difference would be in the cost of the lease in the end.

thank you!..and I think your suggestion of comparable vehicles is the best way to compare.
The challenge I have is that I am receiving a pre-order discount on the lease and so have to take the vehicle now (it was delayed shipping, and the pre-order closed in September). That is why the numbers are unusual.
So my purchase price is reasonable with the pre-order discount, but the money factor is high, so … hard to say whether I should take it or leave it for now!

What did you pick? Did you sign the lease?

Remember that rivian can usually throw in paint/rims. I have a R1s and love it but it is definitely not a good deal when you consider other options.

So I took the deal. 2025 Gen2 R1T on a 2 year lease (it was cheaper than 3 year) which is the most amazing vehicle I have driven, in terms of what you seem to get for your money (or Chase’s).

Basically I compared similar options and the lease deals all came out around the same price, so my Rivian ‘deal’ isn’t particularly good but I get what I want for the same price as other $80k vehicles.

thanks all for the advice!

I just put my deposit down on an In Shop 2025 R1S. When I asked about the 3 yr lease terms I was told the Money Factor for Nov 2024 is .003 for credit score over 750 and the Residual of 60% of msrp. Not the best deal, but want to get the EV tax credits before they disappear. Still waiting for the lease offer, and looks like it will be Dec before I receive it. Maybe the terms will improve in Dec with Fed rate going down?

a tesla with positive equity. impressive!
