Rising insurance premiums

Electric cars cost more to insure.

Fully electric cars cost more.

My phev is quite reasonable almost half of my EVs

Just got a renewal for next year at $2k for Arya and ID4 and $4k for the house in CT state.
Auto is pretty much the same as was last year and home insurance went up $1k vs last year

If anyone is wondering why their quotes/rates increased substantially, Progressive might be able to tell you the reason if you get a quote from them. Apparently my windshield claim was more than $1K on my CLUE report and they also counted a minor ticket without any points (can get this knocked down in NJ which I had done same as in the past). In the past, I don’t recall insurers counting (or heavily weighting) these types of items.

all of that aside, auto rates have been going up across the board in general regardless of claims or tickets.

Exactly. I have had no tickets or claims for many years, and my insurance in So. Cal. keeps going up. I am with Connect/Costco, and when I got quotes from other companies last month, the cheapest was over 50% more than my increased rate from Connect/Costco. When I told one broker what I pay, he said do not waste your time getting other quotes - they will be higher.

True. My experience has been the same. I have Erie and my auto insurance rate has been steadily going up. I typically shop every year before my renewal and quote at least 3 companies. For the past two renewals, my current carrier ended up being cheaper than the new quotes. Also, I lease 2 new cars every two years, which could be a big reason for these high rates.

Same. Sent my renewal from Progressive on house and cars to the brokers and he said we aren’t even close.

Not that anyone needs another data point, but we had been with Geico since we moved to NJ in 2021. Prices been going up since then. Final straw was last week when we bought my wife’s new 2025 Lexus TX 550h+ (replaced a 2024 RX 450h+) Geico jumped another $400 every 6, Progressive was already $100 lower before the new car, and when we added the new car, it stayed the same rate. We jumped to Progressive.

See what happens in six months.

Has anyone ever dealt with Slide insurance for homeowners? We just got a depopulation letter from Citizens saying Slide was where they were sending us.

My statefarm auto is not the cheapest but the combine auto & homeowner is. Other insurance homeowner quote is much higher than statefarm

which summarizes

Anything on your CLUE report is fair game. In states where credit score can’t be considered (unsure if yours is one) its contents can weigh more heavily on your rates.

If it’s $2k or less, you never file a claim. You’ll pay far more than that in premium over time as carriers see you as a petty claims filer.

$100 per car. Their increases we received where higher than that.

Of course. But better than nothing.

I’ve been shopping around every year, yet, for the last 2-3 years we’re keeping statefarm, their auto is not the cheapest but auto+home is cheaper than others.

Any of you here have Progressive and are FL residents ? Progressive sent out refunds to people here last month for premiums collected for all of 2025. Pretty kool on their end. I got mine last month and a friend just received last week.

I switch between progressive and geico every 6-12 months. Just went to progressive again last week to save $500 over 6 months vs geico. The swings are crazy, they clearly don’t care about loyalty
