Rising insurance premiums

5 cars (4 EV, 1 PHEV)
4 drivers, 2 teens
no tickets
no accidents
all the discounts (good student, homeowner, bundling, prepay)
$4,655.00 per 6-mo

The five car thing is temporary, but I don’t think it will go down much after I sell one.

Hah yep. My EV lease is only a few hundred more over 24 months, not 1 pay. Ironically that’s part of the issue. The EVis by far the most expensive of of the 4 the cars to insure.

My wife’s ticket should fall off within the next 6 months so that will lower it a bit. Teen kid with an accident? That’s gonna sting for 2 more years.

Oh well, such is life.

Could your wife do one of those “online defensive driving schools” typically offered through the insurance carrier to lower the premium? I know it is typically carrier and state dependent meaning the state insurance commission has to recognize and approve it as a credit to the premium.

Hmm never thought of that. Worth looking into. Thanks for the suggestion.

Good idea, but my wife wouldn’t sleep with me for a month if I sent her to defensive driving school!

Eh, I get it. Honestly in a previous state I lived in I opted to do it. Didn’t have any tickets or claims however Geico had a $40 “Online Class” that you could do at your own pace and it led to ~$160 savings per year on two vehicles. It was good for 3 years so $480 (savings) - $40 cost so I thought it was worth it.

Wait till she comes back armed with new defensive techniques :joy::joy::joy:!

Mostly they are online class now, you just need to be willing to do multiple choice test after each subject. It’s around 2-3 hours.

Given the above quotes, I wonder at which price point having Uber teen accounts is cheaper than adding a teen driver to the car insurance. feels like with those prices, having a personal drive for a teen is cheaper than giving a car to a teen:)

My daughter’s school is 11miles away. Thats a $25-30 one way ride. $1k a month. Just for school. Not to mention I wouldn’t be too thrilled with her being driven by your typical Uber driver. Not exactly the best of the best when it comes to safety.

Happy to pay the insurance instead.

Any girls among your three kids?
If any, you probably wouldn’t want her to ride Uber at night. As stated above…

To high school and back every day? Isn’t that what school buses are for?

My son was driving to school n back every day during his senior year. I prefer he gained the experience with a known routine route.

Private school.

Bus service is available for an obscene amount on top of the already obscene tuition, which makes Uber a bargain by comparison. And even then I’m not sure it would be available for us. We live kinda in the boonies.

Ask your 17-18 years old if they will ride “stinky school buses” with freshmans :smirk:
If you have any, that is.

My city provides buses for kids in our city who go to private school in our city…

Share with them 30/70 or even 50/50 saving for not paying insurance see what they pick - money in their pocket and bus or car and no money:)

Teens don’t give a shit about your savings lol
How do insurance savings translate into money in their pocket? They get only what parents give them and they are free to earn the rest.

If I have to pay for you $2,000 per year to drive a car or I give you a $1,000 and you ride a bus.

Just wait until yours are old enough and tell you. They will take a car any time. And then will come to you for the money

Pretty sure my kid would pick $0 and a car. I know I would have at her age.

Yeah, no child of mine is riding the public bus. I’ll work an extra job to pay for insurance before that happens.
