Returning lease car with damage

My lease was due back 6/2 with nissan but apparently I have 10 day grace period, as NMAC told me over the phone.

Ill probably return it tomorrow or Monday when I get a new car. I had a third party company inspect it as Nissan used them and they quoted me $863 damage for my front bumper damage.

I know there’s $500 allowance for nissan if I stick with them. Is there anyway to call up NMAC and have them waive the remaining damage?

The guy I spoke to at Nissan said there’s a way to negotiate it if the car is pre 2016 he believes. Sounded like weird insight so I wasn’t sure.

Anyone do this before?

If you lease another Nissan, my bet is they will waive the damage. Whether they state that now or not could be posturing. You can negotiate that into the next deal If it’s nissan again.

There’s always negotiation, but bottom line is it will cost you.
You signed a contract. You damaged the car.

You can’t negotiate that into a deal. The dealer has nothing to do with the damage…it’s all between Nissan and the owner.

If a dealer says “sure” to that negotiation, you have absolutely no recourse when the captive decides to charge anyways.

The dealer could do it by buying the car from nmac …

Try one of those portable dent repair places. I was quoted $750 by BMW and had a bumper scratch fixed for $200. I told the repair guy it needed to pass BMW inspection, it did, and I saved $500

I’ve done the same in the past. PS - you actually saved $550!

Doh! Actually $530 I tipped him $20

I would take the damage to a body shop to see what it would cost to get repaired, since $500 is covered, it maybe cheaper to pay the difference. Do the math and see what’s a better deal.

Just to clarify for anyone less familiar with these terms: The P in PDR actually stands for paintless … all else being equal (even if it was a little more), I would go to a reputable shop rather than some dude in a van.

The broader point is true: if you can get your car repaired for less than what the bank will charge, do it. Esp when you can cut out one or even two levels of middlemen/profit, i.e. they outsource everything cosmetic to a bodyshop which possibly outsources dents to a PDR guy.

“Reputable” shops are likely to charge closer to what BMW might assess. In any case I agree buyer beware.

Would take the guy in a van with references and with no fix/no pay stipulation for $200 vs a fixed shop for $500 any day. Plus they come to your work.
