Returning a lease and lost the second key fob?

I’m returning my lease for a Nissan and I lost the second key fob. The dealer is charging me about $400 to replace and reprogram another key, but I was looking into having an automotive locksmith make a second one. Anything I should know about this? Would it be cheaper to purchase the blank key online myself and take it to someone to program it?

None of the above. Just get your inspection done and see how much Nissan charges for a missing key. This is different than asking the dealer how much it will be to replace a key.

I lost a key on my last Audi lease. Dealer wanted $500+ to replace it. Got my inspection and the charge from Audi was only ~$125 for a missing key. No brainer.
