Just remember that even though your personal auto policy covers rentals, you are still on the hook for the deductible. If you were to have an accident with a rental car, it would be the same as if you had an accident with your own personal vehicle. The insurance company would count it as a claim against your policy and raise your rates. Besides the claim and the rate hike, I believe the rental company would also go after your insurance company for diminished value.

I have AAA. They will only rent 18 in NYC.
