I am in NYC. I leased a vehicle from Delaware and it was delivered to me. Before delivery I was asked if I would be transferring the plates from my previous lease to the new lease, I said yes. I have been waiting about 2 months for my new registration to arrive so I can put my plates on. The temp tag is going to expire on 9/9. I started thinking if maybe I was suppose to do the transfer myself, and it’s not done by the dealer? I reached out to the salesman that I made the deal through and he keeps telling me he’s waiting on an answer from titling. Had I known I would have to pay an additional $200 out of pocket and make a visit to the dmv I would’ve just requested new plates. So who should be responsible for this, them or me?
Last time this happened to me, the dealership paid for the late fee and issued another temp tag. YMMV.
Ask if they can issue another temp tag and overnight it to you. And then separately try to escalate the registration issue to someone else at the dealership.
So then it should be the dealers responsibility, correct? Even though it’s an out of state dealer? That’s the only thing that’s throwing me off when it comes to who should handle it
Yes, dealer’s responsibility. Call the dealership and ask to speak to the title clerk. Speak directly with them in a nice, polite manner about the situation, then ask for another temp tag while they sort out the plate transfer
Just received an express envelope from UPS with my registration. Gotta love the timing!
Thanks for the help though guys!
