Thought I would post my experience for people tired of looking at “unicorn”-type deals. I ordered this car back in February, but due to COVID production was pushed all the way to August. It was finally delivered couple of days ago, and I negotiated the lease. The dealer obviously knew that I wanted the car, and it was pretty difficult to get a decent offer. The main problem is that S60 T6 R-design inventory is very slim in California, and there were NONE available in the color I wanted (Bursting Blue) for months. In addition, this model is not as heavily incentivized here, compared to Northeast. For example, our August Loyalty incentive is only $1000 on a lease (vs $2000 in Northeast). Having said that, I probably left $1500 or more on the table - I just didn’t have the energy or leverage left to keep pushing. Overall, I am still pretty happy - I ordered the car to my exact specs, and I prefer Volvo’s over BMW, Audi, etc. Driving dynamics may not be as great, but I prioritize uniqueness, clean design and super-comfortable interior. So, this is for those who feel frustrated from not being able to reproduce these super-low loaner deals you see on LH sometimes - you are not alone, and sometimes having a car you truly love is more important than monthly payment

Not sure I understood that right. Did you order a car without the price negotiated, or is it you had the price already negotiated but had to work out the lease terms when the car was delivered based on this month’s incentives?

And congrats, I love bursting blue.

I just put $500 deposit down and placed the order in February. All negotiations were done at delivery. I have special-ordered another car from this dealer couple of year ago, and did pre-negotiate the price back then. Should have done the same this time, I guess. Oh well. Honestly, I think even this deal is fair, with monthly under 1% of MSRP. Just not something to write home about - basically just standard A-plan pricing.

Considering the market you are in, congrats to you and enjoy that sweet ride

Congrats on the car. I think some of the people who post unicorns like me don’t tell you what was involved to get them. I was already experienced from my first lease and this is on top of reading this place like it was my next crack fix. Then there’s the nightmare of anally searching for the car you want and actually contacting each of those dealers waiting for a quote. I spent weeks for the one I posted and that one was just pure luck. My first lease I spent months before I got that one. Everyone is different and some won’t tolerate the grind and I respect that. Enjoy your new car!

Thanks for the clarification, seems risky to negotiate at delivery time as the dealer already knows you want that specific car… but I guess it works both ways as the dealer probably doesn’t want to be left with a high MSRP bursting blue S60 which is suitable only for a very particular type of buyer. I guess there’s the safety net of having A-plan pricing as the worst case backup.

Yes, I will pre-negotiate the deal next time for sure. The car is actually pretty “lean” for a T6 RD, with MSRP on the low end. I didn’t order common popular features like Advanced pack, B&W audio or even 19" wheels. All I wanted was the supercharged engine with Polestar tune  This thing is not only good looking, it is also properly quick for a family sedan (330hp / 325 lbft).
