Rate my Deal Ioniq 5 which turned into an ID.4

EVs don’t hold value. Nothing that holds value is currently being discounted or have much incentives, making leases really bad for brands like Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Mazda, etc.

If you get the Ioniq 5 for $2k drive offs and roughly $385/mo with tax with free EA charging, you’re going to be paying less than any gas car right now. My wife spends $400/mo on gas on her MDX. I offered to get her an Ioniq 6 for local to save money (told her that she can keep her MDX), but she really likes driving her MDX.

How does Volkswagen ID4 look, a dealer around here is giving 5K discount over 7500 rebate.
Here is what the numbers say

Ioniq 5 is a better car in my opinion… faster charging, roomier interior, one pedal driving, better range.

Also, if your lease is USB, I believe the RV is inflated by the $7500 which is why it’s so high (and the monthly is low)… so not a good candidate for lease then buy.

I took a test drive of both ioniq5 and id4 and totally agree that ioniq5 is a better car in and out.
The range however is the same for ioniq5 SEL AWD and ID4 Pro RWD i.e. 265 miles.
but financially id4 makes lot more sense.

for 30 dollar extra per month with ID4 I get 15K miles vs 10K and 3 years vs 2 years with Ioniq.
Also the residual is $23K in ID4 vs 40K with Ioniq… so I can atleast think of buying an ID4.
Not finalized but makes more fiscal strength.

How did we get from Hi5 one-pay to thinking about buying an ID4?
TLDR; Forget the VW. Don’t buy extra miles. Go back to finding a Hi5 with a $5K discount. Game over.

can you please help me understand why ioniq deal numbers are better than ID4? Am I missing something?

Do you understand what a one-pay is? Start here.

Both of these EVs are depreciation time bombs. You want to hold them, for as short a period as possible, and then give them back and move onto a newer one. So shorter=better.

You have already concluded the Hi5 is a “better car in and out” – I agree.

For EVs, I prefer a 24 over 36… just not a 13.

He won’t get 5k discount for a limited or SEL in norcal.

If the one pay is for 24 months, you won’t qualify for cvrp or any county specific rebates

I got the ID4 over the Ioniq and love the ID4.

Looks good. Good discount, amazing MF, and good payment for 15k/yr. The 7500 is taxed, but it looks like you lumped everything into dealer fees in the calculator.

A close friend of ours just got the ID 4 Pro S AWD. They don’t believe in leases. They just paid cash, and I’m pretty sure they don’t qualify for any fed or state EV credits for purchases. They got the “cheapest” ID4 at our local Autonation VW dealer, so they probably paid close to MSRP. But they’re thing is flipping real estate, so getting deals on cars isn’t really their thing.

Their ID 4 Pro S AWD is really nice. I would say that it’s just as nice as my Ioniq 5 SEL, but has some nicer features because it is an S - glass roof, seat massager, car starts when you sit down, and just a much nicer sounding sterio. The ride is just as comfortable and quiet. It’s more of an SUV than my Ioniq. The Ioniq is a large hatchback. The ID4 looks skinnier and longer. I’m not sure of the real dimensions because I didn’t get out a tape measure. On the inside, I’ve read that the ID4 is bigger, but the Ioniq feels bigger. ID4 definitely has more of a cockpit feel, right down to the motorcycle style instrument cluster that is mounted on the steering column. That’s one of the downsides of the Ioniq, where you have to be careful not to block your instrument when you adjust your steering column.

The 2023 model doesn’t seem to have any lag on the infotainment system. It’s very responsive. They only complain that they have is that when they’re backing out of an angled driveway, it thinks that there is something blocking the way (which is actually the street), and the car abruptly stops, thinking that it’s doing you a favor by avoiding an accident. This actually happened, when they were backing out of our driveway. Hopefully, this is just a software update.

Wouldn’t hold my breath on any ID.4 software updates

Coincidentally I had this open on an Edmunds Car Compare:

The I5 is slightly bigger in the front row (except for head room) but notably bigger in the rear row.

I was also comparing this to the Ariya as I found the front row also roomy. I think that’s because like the I5, the center console does not extend all the way to the dashboard.

While I understand none of these cars are fun to drive, isn’t the Arya or ID4 the worst of the lot in that regard?

Had a ID4 First Edition. Yeah the promised update was the only issue for me. Overall it was pretty good. Sold it to Autonation and got everything back i spent on it

hmm… can you explain this more… i thought the 7500 is removed directly from the msrp and not actually taxed to us when we file our returns.

Not sure how “fun to drive” is defined.

One difference between the Ariya/BZ and the Ioniq if you are looking at 2WD is that both of those are FWD and the Ioniq is RWD which might have different driving dynamics.

Most EVs have that instant torque/acceleration which is what I like most about them. That also leads to better cornering but I’m not a driving expert as I’m sure there are others on LH who can speak to that better.

Unless something has changed, the $7500 fleet lease incentive is taxable. It’s money given to you by the finance institution that you are leasing from, at their discretion. Most incentives are taxed.

so do they give a statement at the end of fiscal year for us to add to our returns?
