Random Jeep chatter

I guess you guys don’t have the Gorilla glass?

Gorilla glass chips/breaks too. It’s crap.

I know someone who replaced their OEM windshield after 1k miles and dealer replaced it with a Gorilla glass one lol .

Windshield cracks/chips are common with wranglers

Gorilla is good for chip resistant but useless on bullseye hit.
Some dealer will offer windshield coverage for 500-600 bucks worth getting if you are keeping your Jeep.

no you have to go through your insurance

Gorilla glass is supposed to have a 2 year limited warranty.

The gg has a very specific set of criteria that the warranty applies to. Initial impact damage has to be between 1" and 3", etc.

Check with your service advisor and see if they are resistant on doing it. If so, start a case with Jeep Wave case # and they will contact dealer for approval.

Of the 30,000k+ posts I’ve read about 4xe wranglers here at least 99% of windshield cracks, etc have been people with gorilla glass

Not sure if it’s the product or people that have it expect it to perform better so they are the ones who always comment :man_shrugging:

Pretty much life of upright windshield.
All the Wranglers/Bronco/Defender/FJ Cruisers have speed dials to their favorite windshield guy.

Gorilla Glass is the biggest piece of marketing fluff I’ve seen in quite a while. Tangentially related to this, my Galaxy S22 Ultra supposedly is made of the “latest and greatest” Gorilla Glass Victus. The entire back of the phone is covered with spider cracks after a very modest drop onto a wood floor while the phone was in a case. It’s just not a particularly good product. I would have a hard time springing for it as an “upgrade” on any vehicle purchased in the future.

3000 miles in, and finally got the 4xe off of pavement! Spent the week on Cape Cod, got out on the beach 4 times. Handled it beautifully in 4-hi, with the tires at about 15 psi. Spent most of the time in electric only, which is nice when you’ve got the top back and windows down.

Surprisingly, lots of respect from folks in older Jeeps. They loved to see it running in electric!

Interesting thing was, first time out on sand the dash wasn’t very happy. Check engine light on because I needed to “service stability control” and of course adaptive cruise/braking assist turned off. The 2nd time out I got fewer lights, and the 3rd time out I got no lights or errors. Perhaps it just needed to realize I was going off-road and there wasn’t actually something broken.

FWIW, I ventured out onto several beaches in Oregon over Christmas, always on a lark, so no deflation. Truck performed just fine, nice traction during my easy donuts, no dashboard lights, and 4Hi.

Good to know. I assumed I’d be OK without deflating, but Cape Cod has air stations at most of the beach entrances, so it’s not a big deal to just stop and air back up on the way out. Because Cape beaches are heavily traveled in the summer the ruts get pretty deep, so there’s definitely that consideration, but maybe next time I should give it a shot without airing down first.

Worth the try! I was actually stunned how ‘at home’ the Jeep felt on the sand, whether dry loose or surf compacted. I suppose I didn’t know what to expect, but was happily surprised.

Definitely want to do this in the future - the MA beaches require a sticker? Do they allow out of state folks to purchase passes?

the grand wagoneer looks sexy in the press shot with the red leather and pano sunroof.

I agree the regular ones are too big/bulky for my taste, but that looked pretty great
