Long story short, a quick lube type shop messed up my oil change over the weekend, took it back today and after looking at the vehicle they admitted to draining the transmission fluid instead of the oil. I only drove the vehicle probably 3 miles since then. The oil was significantly overfilled, and transmission fluid was empty.
I’m getting the vehicle towed to the Subaru dealership to have it inspected for transmission and engine damage. The manager of the shop has been accommodating so far, refunding the oil change amount, and reimbursing me for the tow to the shop. However, when I told him I wanted my 2015 Subaru Outback taken to the dealership, he started to push back saying they have the “right” to send it to a mechanic of their choice. I insisted on it going to Subaru.
Does anyone have experience with something like this? Should I call my insurance company? Any other suggestions?
I say their F Up…so you should be able to take it wherever you want to have it looked at. I don’t know what your insurance company would do for you though. It wasn’t involved in a collision, theft, or vandalism. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to contact them if the quicklube doesn’t want to pay.
Had a similar situation way back in the day when Sears messed up an axle during a tire replacement. Get in touch with the district rep; there’s a limited amount of pull the store manager can have. I’m assuming this is a chain and not a mom-pop store.
I’ve been talking with the “area manager-” it sounds like he’s in charge of the three shops in my area. He’s been pretty good so far, except when I took my car to the Subaru dealership.
Time will tell if he’s still cooperative when I start asking for more, like a rental car
