Purchasing used car out of state and transporting

Thinking of purchasing a car out of state and this would be my first time. Does anyone have recommendations of what i should look out for? Reliable Transport vendors, etc?

Found some vehicles in Illinois and would transport to NJ.

Transport is way down the line.

What is it? and is it a good deal?

What’s the car’s condition and history?

Have you had a reputed mechanic put it on a lift and done a PPI (pre-purchase inspection)?

Looking at a 2024 q7. Price is about 2k lower than what im seeing around my way. Wondering if its worth it…

How much cheaper is this used car compared to broker listings for brand new Q7s?

I hope youre planning on getting rid of it right before the warranty is up

$2k lower doesn’t leave much to play with at all. A good half of that, if not higher depending on if you go enclosed, will be eaten up by transport. You also could hardly fly in & drive back for $1k.For a ~$1k I personally would not even screw around trying to save that on an unknown used car.

On a used car, probably not worth the effort for $2k unless you are already in the area of the dealership and can drive it back yourself. I’ve done that a few times when I lived in the DC area and the off-lease used luxury car market was more favorable in the NYC area… But my parents still live in CT so I had a reason to be up that way anyways. In your case, especially with used, wouldn’t really be willing to buy sight unseen for savings of $2k minus transport costs.

This is the first question that @martian421 needs to answer

Yeah, if the difference is 3-4k I would just buy a new one, plenty of good brokers here.

I was looking at used 2023 Q7 P+ models with an OTD price of about $53k. Ive been hearing from some brokers that Audi new models MSRP has increased with a trickle down effect to their used market.

My budget was to try to get into one at around $50k OTD (46-47k listing price but doesnt seem like i can find one that i like.

Buying a used car from out of state can be a bit of a journey, but it’s doable. First off, make sure to check the car’s history and condition before you dive in. You want to know what you’re getting into.

I was actually able to find a dealer in Atlanta who uses Click Lane to purchase online and perform delivery. The price OTD was $3k less than the dealer who is 15 mins from me.

Wanted to ask you Hackrs, I was originally planning to pay cash for the deal but felt uncomfortable with putting down that much without physically seeing the vehicle. the dealer would give me another $500 if I finance and the sales person says there would be no penalty to do immediate pay off. The OTD price is $52.5k. is what was I would expect to pay the lender if I pay off immediately? or would there be some financing charge? I’m assuming the latter but I don’t have access to all the financing docs yet.

Why would you feel more comfortable if you were financing it? The risks are the same. Once the car is in your name, it’s in your name. All the liabilities are yours.

Get a PPI by a reputable Indy (not a dealer) regardless of whether you are paying cash or financing it.
