Good morning hackr’s! I have never asked any questions regarding purchasing a car, but as leasing is not very favorable I wanted to purchase this time around. Here is my deal. I’m having a problem with some fees, being charged in particular the dock fee of $1198., elec filing fee of $559.55, tag fee of $400. and PTA fee of $189. I always thought the doc fee was negotiable? I was able to knock off the two charges of $995. each. and I’m at 40,000. all in. How did I do and can I negotiate any of these other fees? Thanks in advance for your help. Cynthia.
Did you confirm that a used 2023 Q5 with almost 14,000 miles is valued at $42,647?
Good question I did not. Do I check the KBB? I checked the KBB and it’s $37,304.
FYI this is a poor choice of car to either buy or lease.
Most dealers in Florida have high doc fees. Nothing you can do about that.
OTD prices are negotiable. It doesn’t really matter whether they allocate the same OTD number with a $1.00 doc fee or a $2,500 doc fee.
OP’s problem is they chose the wrong car to put all this effort into.
Agree. I was just pointing out a fact since OP is in FL
You might probably be right.
@Stylist1 - Is there a reason you chose this car? Are you open to other SUVs?
Yeah… no… Don’t fall for that bs
Thanks for the reality check. Just one more thing in Florida that’s ridiculous.
At least you don’t have to worry about paying yearly excise tax on your car, unlike those of us living here in MA.
This vehicle should be priced at no more than $35k. The add on fees are standard for doc. You can, by law, document the car yourself by going to the Tax Collector’s office, helping you avoid the $559 fee, which is ridiculous.
Law states: “You can drive your newly bought new or used car for up to 30 days without the metal license plate and vehicle title . However, you must have the proper valid registration after 30 days, or you could face criminal charges.”
This deal is way out of range, and I wouldn’t spend more than $34k if they want pure profit of $1200 at a dealership that doesn’t even align with the manufacturer.
Are you open to leasing an EV? What’s your monthly budget?
