PURCHASED: 2022 Mazda Miata, MSRP $36,265. Purchase Price $30,004

My wife has been suggesting that we get a minivan so I did the only sensible thing and bought a two seater convertible with essentially zero storage space.

I’ve been looking at Miata’s for a few months and was originally trying to purchase one used as I wanted a car I could take to the track but the market for used Miata’s is competitive I’d say. Started with a search for NCs but any NC that hadn’t been modified to hell was selling for 15-20K minimum. Started looking at used ND2s specifically for the increased power at higher RPMs but came to the same conclusion. People are paying in the high 20s for an ND2 with 20-30K miles on it. Noticed that Mazda had a $3,000 incentive on remaining 2022s. Searching the various auto sites there was only 5-10 manual transmissions left on the west coast and after having a few sold while I was trying to negotiate I ended up getting the last one west of Colorado I believe. Not an expert in Miata purchase prices but I’m thinking that 10% dealer discount and the $3K incentive should give me some protection against depreciation if I want to get out of this in a few years. Might hold it long term if Mazda ends up going the electric route.

This looks to be a great deal on a new Miata. I have owned a bunch of NAs, a few NBs, a couple of Fiatas, and I now have a '23 Club. You could say that I am a fan. Enjoy! Any mods planned?

I wanted a club but the only 22s left were GTs. I don’t think I would have found the same dealer discount even if there was one though. Pretty happy with the white with the terracotta seats, I think it looks great.

No plans for mods yet. Have some house projects to take care of then I’ll start looking into mods. What would you recommend for mods?

I personally think the Miata formula works best when they are kept close to stock. I only brought it up since you mentioned track work. They do have a lot of body roll stock, even for backroad driving. I put some Eibach springs and got a performance oriented alignment on one of my Fiatas and it made a huge difference without upsetting the excellent balance. I am probably going to do the same with my new Club. You can go down the path of coil-overs, sways, and more tire and it will definitely improve the handling, but I think you lose a lot of what makes the car fun.
