Hi all, my 2-year lease on a 2024 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD is up at the end of March and I’ve started looking for my next vehicle.
I liked the Ioniq 5 and would certainly be ok with another one and I’m seeing there are some big lease incentives ($15k+) for remaining 2025 models. BUT, the 2026 models came down in price by about 10k across the board (e.g. my local has a 2025 RWD Limited for about 57k and a 2026 RWD Limited for ~48k plus a 5k markdown), meaning that the lease numbers are actually coming up very similar for 2025 vs 2026. These guys literally have 10 2026 and just 1 2025 in this trim.
If I can find a dealer that wants to offer a solid discount off sticker on a 2025 (10%+), that markdown plus incentives would probably get me a sub-$400/mo effective payment for a Limited trim. Any tips for trying to get them to play ball, or should I just suck it up and go with a 2026 instead? I would think they would be eager to offload the old models, but realize they are probably fighting against their sunk costs.
How did you arrive at this 10%+ discount plus incentives number? Is there any data supporting that this is doable on a 2025?
I’ve got a quote from an out-of-state dealer that has one for ~$56k msrp and is offering 5k off sticker (so 9% I suppose). It’s landing around $420/mo and I’m probably content with that, however I’m looking into shipping logistics and seeing how much cost that will add to the equation. Also trying to get them down just a little more because I’m just trying to squeeze every last bit I can.
So just wondering if 10%+ is possible. There are a LOT more dealers in my area with a TON of old stock, and so I’m just wondering why they won’t do the same (and save me the hassle of an out-of-state deal). Just emailed one of the locals to see if they would match, but not optimistic. I know common sense doesn’t apply here, but can’t they see that it’s gonna be an uphill battle to move last year’s models without a big discount when the current year sticker is literally 10k less?
I should note that I am spoiled by my current lease, where I’m paying <250/mo because I got really lucky.
It’s not worth the effort to squeeze out an extra few hundred dollars. The difference between 9% and 10% off on an Ioniq5 is negligible and asking a dealer to match an out of state and offer is going to have a much higher chance of success than asking them to beat an offer.
You have some leverage on a 2025, but not as much as you think. These dealerships are well aware of how long they have had these cars in inventory and what the market is on them.
