Porsche 981 gt4 values

The GT2 seats look more comfortable to me since they appear wider. But seats are a funny thing. When I ordered my Cayman S, I thought for sure I would get the 14-way seats since they are the “comfort” option and wider at the base. Drove one home just to make sure and the seat dug into my shoulders since the backrest narrows toward the top. Then drove one with the 18-ways and it was perfect since the shoulder area is wider.

People need to stop wanting these. This is my dream obtainable Porsche.

I had buckets in my Cayman T and 18 ways in the 992S and GTS. The buckets are great if you do one of the aftermarket inserts - I went with Lisa at P1 Designs. She added lumbar support and I did 8+ hour days in them driving to and from tracks and literally zero issues. You have to be used to or able to accommodate an upright seating position (which is what I do anyway) and they’re great. I did 18 ways in the 911s because the buckets make less sense in there, without being able to fold the rear seat area is pretty much useless for anything other than a half cage. 14 ways are trash for me. 4 way basic seats are fine but I works upgrade out of them to the 18 ways or buckets given the choice.

I tried the older buckets to upgrade my 997.1 GT3 and either I’m too fat for them or they are designed to be torture seats for anyone heavier than 130lbs.

Yeah my friends who have 992 GT3s all have 18 ways. Most 981 desirable specs have buckets in them though so it’s hard to find one with sofas.

Same story with transmission. 981 GT4s only came with manual but I’d rather do PDK if it was available,so it’s more daily-able.

How much did this run? And are you able to adjust the lumbar?

I’m used to upright seating position but buckets are slightly more upright than my sweet spot.

For me, the only immediate discomfort I had was that little nub below the headrest, which I think is removable. That being said, I need to lose a lot of weight anyway.

I think my setup was like $1200, it varies depending on the fabric you buy and features you add (more memory foam, lumbar support bladder for driver and/or passenger) and the car its going in (the 992 uses a slightly different passenger side seat design. www.p1designs.com

For the upright issue, people also make little spacers to help it recline more. I was fine with it as us but my friend uses the spacer and it adds a little bit of recline

The nub is 100% removeable and is some US requirement. You just twist and the back pops off and you can store them in 2 pieces. I took mine off immediately at delivery.

Back in 2017 I bought a base 2014 CPO 981 Boxster for just $32k. It was one with manual transmission and sport suspension X73. For me it was the perfection of automobile fast enough to really enjoy the flat 6 engine and slow enough to not break any laws if you didn’t want to. I am still dreaming of those days where you could buy Porsches for that cheap. With that being said, last year I looked at a brand new GTS 4.0 Boxster and the dealership was willing to sell it for MSRP. I am not sure how the market changed since that time but If you have the money, I would look at GTS 4.0 Boxster/Cayman. I don’t think the GTS 4.0 is any less fun than the GT4/Spyder. I even think it is more fun because it is not as stiff as the GT4. BTW, I hate those bucket seats.

What do you mean, those early 981 cars are still that cheap

How long have you been a PCA member for?

  1. There is big difference between 981 and 987.2 what you posted
  2. The car you posted is almost 15 years old. The car I was talking about was a 3 year old CPO lease return in immaculate condition.
  3. Try to find a 3 year old lease return (CPO or non CPO) for less than $60k. Good luck
  4. To compare apples with some sort of apples: Today if you want to buy a newer model 981 (the last model was 2016) in more or less similar condition as the one I bought at that time, you still have to pay over $50k. But we are now talking about a 8 year old car (mine was 3 year old).

Longer than I am a member of leasehackr lol But now I don’t have any Boxsters, now I am driving a Macan S. The Macan is great but I still miss my Boxster like crazy, that was the best driving car I have ever owned. The only reason I sold it was because I had a damaged knee and activating the clutch became too painful over time. I bought after that another 981 with PDK but sold it at one point because towards the end it had bunch of issues.

You mentioned a 2014 which is a 981. Lots of 987.2s in that price range too. You can get 718s for 40s or a nice one for 50s which accounting for inflation isn’t terribly too far off, but you don’t want that 4cyl.

@wam22 since we have you here with first hand information about the current market, could you please give us some updates about what is going on now with the following on the new Porsche car market:

  1. How is the market for the base 911 and 718/718 GTS 4.0 ? Do you guys still ask for markups? (Do you have any allocations lol just asking for a friend lol)
  2. How is the market for the rest of the portfolio (panamera/macan/cayenne)? I got my Macan S in summer for 9%off. I think that was a great buy and great value for a solid porsche.

As a crazy Porsche guy, I am always in the market for good deals and waiting for the next good opportunity to pull the trigger on a nice 718 or 911. Any insights would be appreciated!
