Porsche 911 Dakar, it's real!

Is it wrong to be in love with this?

It’s wrong NOT to love it

Safari 911s are already thing so…They have also raced Cayenne’s in various rallys

Off to a great start, the first option I selected was $28k paint. A bit pricey, starts like $50k above a gt3.

It is real and you can’t get one! I am surprised they are making 2500 of these. I figured it would be under 1000 given that this is a very niche car and the Sport Classic only had 1250 produced.

For people with more money than brains, like most of Porsche special edition cars

Probably the outlier here but bring back the days of real 911s, not Cars and Coffee pleasers.

Understated 996/997 GT cars being tracked on Saturday and driven to the office on Monday is where it was at (and always will be).

This is a real 911 if you go by Ferry Porsche’s words “The 911 is the only car with which you can go on an African safari, race the Le Mans, go to the theater and then drive on the streets of New York”.

But just enjoy the new cars they are putting out. If you want a 996/997, there are enough on the market you can buy, but I would take a new 992 any day for going to the track on Sunday and the office on Monday.

My build is eye-watering high, for a car with the heart of a GTS, a bit too rich for me.

Another cynical nostalgia cash-grab. The original existed in a time when Porsche didn’t make SUVs. So its existence made sense.

Why tf would any Porsche works team choose a 911 for a Dakar rally in 2022?

I really want to build one on the site. But the only outcome plausible is that I’ll sigh and just say, I guess I can always get a WRX instead.

Or maybe a gr Yaris

it would depend on classing. Dakar is lame in restricting all the intake sizes though

I agree.

As a Porsche bigly yuuge fanboi myself, I don’t go all “if it’s not a 911 it isn’t a Porsche”. I made peace with the fact Cayennes and Macans are what the company is all about now. Bidness, is Bidness after all and that’s what sells in volume. And they’re cool cars too. Hell there’s a Panamera in my garage as I speak, so whatevs.

But can we have at least 1 measly option that is still a true Porsche? That’s all I ask for. I don’t think it’s too unreasonable.
