Paying Registration Fee before end of Lease

This might be a dumb questions but I can’t seems to find a straight answer.

I have a 39 months lease on a Q50 and it’s getting near maturity date. However, I just got a mail from the DMV that my car registration is DUE before I can return the car. I am not planning to keep the car so what are my options?

  1. Return the car early? like 36 months?
    or
  2. Bite the bullet and pay for the Registration for the entire year?

Is there a 3rd option like paying portion of the registration?

Lesson learned… I’m not leasing anything more than 36 months.

Nope you have to bite the bullet. Had to do the same thing when I turned in my Q50 back in September.

Just paid mine 3 days ago for a 39 month Q50 lease also.
Damnit Infiniti! Got a good deal on the car and then we get hit with an extra $300 towards the end of the lease.

Lesson learned for sure.

Nice thread and was going to ask similar question.

My Buick Encore lease end is on 03/19 and registration due date is 03/20 and I am actually planning on returning it tomorrow. Do I still have to pay the registration?

Thank you.

The downside to 39 month leases in high registration fee states like Colorado, California, and Washington.

No but check w mfgr to be sure

Just talked to DMV today. They say I can do 1 month in person. I guess 3 months is possible too. It is in VA and the one year registration is ~$45, anyway

That is the downside of infiniti leases in California. However I did the math when I was leasing my Q50 and 39 month lease with the extra registration was still cheaper than a 36 month Infiniti lease.

Yeah… CA registration renew is $316. Ridiculous compared to VA. My monthly is $290 /w tax… go figure.

As a salesman here in CA that’s why I never recommend 39 month leases. They save a few bucks per month but often people overthink the registration. 36 is definitely the way to go :+1:

This is why I try to lease 24 or 36 months only.
I’m stuck with a 30-month lease on a BMW i3, hoping BMW will let me extend it for another 6 months.

Here in PA, we pay 37/year and transfer plates to new car for nominal fee. No issues for us on a 39 mo. Reason 487 Californians get screwed.

Solution 1) See what Vroom and Carvana Appraise it, if you have equity get rid of it

Solution 2) Check to see, if you can extend the lease, most companies allow 6 month extension so now you have 9 month instead of only 3, if you pay the registration

I just paid $565 on my 18’ Red Sport here in Cali

It actually works fine in Colorado because you get a 60 day temp(beginning of lease) and a 30 day grace period(for the end of lease). They also give you credit if you have time left, so it’s not completely flushed down the toilet. And if you did let them expire just chuck those plates like they never existed, don’t use them on the next lease.

Other problem with 39 month lease is most warranties are 36 months.

Big reason to lease is NEVER worrying about repairs.

They give credit in VA also, but you need to request it and it goes to the lender. Try to get it from them :slightly_smiling_face:
But like I said, it is $45/year, so not a big deal.

They get you good in Colorado, 2% of whatever magically value they give your vehicle, per year.
