Over miles 6 months left

Hi everyone!

My current lease on my 2022 Tiguan SEL R line is ending in June 2025 but I am currently at my 30k mileage limit. Lucky for me, my driving habits have significantly decreased since starting a new job (was commuting 40 miles a day and now doing about 5). My current lease payments are 475 a month and I’m not sure what to do with 6 payments left. The dealer has reached out to see if I want to return the car early but I don’t really plan on staying with VW as I don’t find anything they offer appealing. I was looking to switch to an EV after this lease and seriously considering the new Model 3.

My lease is through a third party and not VW credit. Is there a way to purchase extra miles to lessen the fees when I turn the car in? I’d gladly appreciate any advice.

It would help to know who the third party is. What is the over mile rate on your lease agreement?

The third party is Affinity Credit Union and lease contact has the over mile rate as .25 cents per mile

Honestly on the math at 5 miles per day with 180 days left on the lease that would be 900 miles at (900*.25) =225 and (225/6)=37.5 additional per month.

If Affinity offers a way to prepay miles at a lower rate then obv take it but this doesn’t look like too bad of a situation to be in.

Keep your car for another 6 months and pay the overage fee at the end.

Dealership calls are for marketing purposes to sell more cars. They are not “saving you” any money.
