Out of State Lease - Ohio Resident

I’m planning on getting a leased vehicle from a dealership in NY and I’m an OH resident. I understand that the dealership collects the tax based off the state and county of my residence but I was curious if anybody has had experience in the registration of a vehicle in OH or their home state in a similar lease process. Thanks in advance!

Ohio is very simple - you take (or they use a service) the required docs (POA, MSO, bill of sale) to the title agency and create an Ohio title.

After that, you go to the BMV with the new title, an application for registration & a POA to sign on behalf of the leasing company.

The leasing company owns the car so you’re just signing for them on most docs.

Takes all of 45 minutes if you have the paperwork onhand.

Thank you for your response! Would the POA and MSO be requested from the leasing company or would I obtain any of those through the dealer?

The dealer will likely do it for you

Sounds good. I will have to discuss that with them. Do you by chance know if the vehicle would already be titled in NY or would my process create the first title to the car?

It is not titled

Are you sure you’re getting a good deal?

Most dealerships around us are selling vehicles with multiple add-ons and charging $1-10k over MSRP. This vehicle only added floor mats and sold at MSRP. The payment came out well below what we were finding locally and we wanted to capitalize on the deal we got through Carvana.

Thank you for your explanation!

What are the actual numbers?

If you’d rather not discuss them because they won’t hold up to scrutiny then okay.

I can attest to what @Benedetto said. I leased a car from him that came from out of state (I’m in Ohio). Car came with out of state temp tags. Dealer then mailed all of the necessary paperwork. Went to BMV several weeks later and had the car registered in Ohio after completing paperwork. Pretty simple process.

Thank you for actually assisting with the question on hand. I truly appreciate it!

You came to a leasing forum - he just has an interest in making sure you’re not getting ripped off. Lashing out doesn’t really do anything. Also if anyone should be taking a nap it’s me in my current time zone
