Out of State Lease End Purchase Help

Hello,

I leased a Mazda three years ago and my current lease is about to end; The car is registered in North Carolina and my address is in NC but drove to CA for seasonal work. I will not be back in NC for the next few months and my lease is ending soon.

My goal is to purchase my current car while I’m still in CA but Mazda Financial said the car would become CA-registered rather than NC-registered and would need CA insurance if I cannot return to NC.

Is there any way at all to keep my NC tags and insurance on my car without having to go back to NC?

Thank you all for any insight.

Does the car have to be physically inspected to buy it? If not nobody has to know where the car is.

Yes you can. You can message DMV and say you are out of state and they will waive your inspection for 1 year. You will need an invoice from a shop for an oil change or something showing car is out of state. I have done it many times while living in MA but tags in NC
