Hello LeaseHackr community,
Thank all of you for all the information. I have indeed learned a lot from you guys!
I am very new to car leasing and working on finding my first car lease.
I am looking to lease a Mazda Cx-5 and found a good deal ( in the current market) at a FL dealership. My question is, can I sign a lease in FL and drive/ get the delivery to GA? At the moment, I live in GA, GA license. I DO NOT have a FL address.
Thanks, Max_g,
I am looking at a couple of lease options from AutoNinja. I need to research more on this. But wanted clarify about out of states first before I proceed and see that’s not possible.
In this scenario, what happens to the car’s title and registration?
Will the bought vehicle be titled in the state of purchase( FL here)? . In my understanding, the car will be titled in FL and then the title needs to be transferred to GA (with all the GA taxes now required to be paid)
If you at working with ALN, best direct your questions to them. Every broker/dealer operates in their own way. In general, if the dealer will sell to an out-of-state buyer, they will let you know upfront whether they will handle title/registration, or you will. Either case, title/registration is done based on where the vehicle will be registered. In your case, it’ll be GA and if the dealer is doing it (or getting a runner to do it), you’ll pay them all the necessary fees. If you’re doing it, you should get the necessary paperwork to do it at your local DMV and you pay all the fees then.
As someone who deals with in and out of state leasing and purchases day in and day out, it really comes down to if the deal is worth putting your trust in all the gears working when you don’t have someone you can talk to face to face.
Look to seller/broker/dealer reviews for guidance.
Thanks so much for clarifying.
Well in this scenario, which states taxes will be levied? As I understand it will be GA tax ( which is a one-time TAVT) but NO FL sales tax. So NO tax dollars actually going to the state of purchase.
Also, I am not actually working with ALN. I am still learning the process while assessing some options that they advertised. I don’t want to rush into anything before understanding it in and out and this community is really helping me do that. Kudos to you guys!
I don’t think I’ve ever purchased a car in my own state. Dealership typically handles registration. In my case, they give me paper temp tags in the state that I purchase the car (I believe every state gives paper temp plates except for MA). I drive it home and get inspection/emissions done and send them any documentation they need to get the car registered in my home state, then they have a company that handles their registration process (where they’ll pay sales tax for your state). If working with a broker, your POC will likely be the broker rather than dealer.
It’s really the same process as buying in state, except you need to go out of state and need to do any inspection/emissions on your own rather than the dealership doing it for you.
