I have a 2018 Passat GT and I was wondering if you guys think theres value in trying to find someone to take over the lease. In terms of payoff, I don’t think its a favorable deal to get it bought out because I have a lot of payments left. I think the attractive thing about the vehicle though is #1 it’s unique and interesting and #2 my monthly payment is really low.
|Residual Value:|$16,378.20|
|Residual/Payoff Tax:|$546.51|
|Payments Due Not Paid:|$360.52|
|Remaining Future Payments:|$9,936.54|
|Late Charges:|$30.00|
|Lease Charge Rebate:|-$455.56|

I have 28 payments left,
10k miles a year I believe. Currently has 6500 miles.
$390 a month for the monthly payment
I don’t love that VW keeps me as liable so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with that (bad or good or otherwise).
Based on what I saw on there, $400 was considerably cheap when you factor in that the GT has all the technology of the SEL Premium except the backup alert and navigation. I suppose the only way to know is to put it out there. I think I am more curious with people’s experience swapping a VW lease.
I think you may struggle to find people who would agree that the car is ‘unique’ and that the payments are low. Have you checked how much Carvana/Vroom etc would give you for it?
I can’t recall my sticker but I believe it was close to that with tax/title/etc.
I made a mistake in getting a sedan. I have two kids, a very large dog, and play hockey. The hockey bags fit in fine, but only when I drive one other person. We can’t take my dog and kids anywhere together in my car, have to use my wifes CX5. The strollers don’t fit in my trunk.
We also drive to Indiana a lot from Wisconsin, so we need a larger vehicle for luggage. We’re usually fine if it’s just a weekend but we inevitably come back with more stuff, so thats a factor as well.
At the time, I thought it would be cool to drive something that’s pretty rare for VW and was fast and handled well. Sexy dad car
Yeah, nothing remotely close. You wouldn’t describe 1 of 1,500 and the only VW ever made in the USA as unique? I would. $390 for a sedan that has every feature except navigation and self driving is a pretty fair deal based on other Passats on saw on Swap a lease.
Less than 1% of MSRP is the general monthly payment goal. It’s going to cost you, but If you really want out, consider buying out the lease and starting over.
No problem. You have a very nice car, just enjoy it a for awhile and try not to stress the numbers. This site has a ton of information, absorb as much info as you can, and the next lease will be so much easier.
The “GT” part of the Passat’s nomenclature to me reflects a Cosmetics package on a 6-cylinder Passat SEL, essentially. Nothing too dynamic or special about it. Just a lot of usage of red-trim. It looks nice and it’s fairly well-equipped, I just don’t think an 8 year old car is worth 390 a month, currently.
Accord 2.0T Sport is a better option.
As a VW/Audi fan-boy, I wouldn’t buy the Passat GT. However, I do think your best chance of offloading the car will be to someone who likes red-trim or a VW fanatic.
Have you tried going to VWVortex forums? There will most likely be someone there that will be okay with the conditions of a transfer.
Yes there are some cosmetics that are tied to the GT, but the suspension and 6 cylinder engine is what I take to be the GT naming in addition the extra aesthetics. Not sure what you mean by an 8 year old car.
What he means by an 8yr old car is that the NMS Passat (not to be confused with the European B7) is a stale model that came out in 2012. They haven’t moved the Passat to the MQB platform and VW America doesn’t plan to either (not atleast anytime soon)
Hint: You don’t really drive a real Passat. Gotta go to Europe for that…lol
