Opinions on this $399 Grand Cherokee Altitude offer

There is a dealer literally steps from where I live but they don’t want to negotiate by email or phone even though I have already been in there to test drive so I started looking online. Really like the Rhino Blacked out Altitude color combination.

I found a dealer online that sounded really eager to make a deal and he said that they would drive the car to me in NY from Down south lol! What do you guys think? He quoted me $399 with military, corporate, and conquest.

I was just in the market for a Jeep GC last month and ended up getting the Upland in Rhino with the blacked out grill/runs/logo. It is a beautiful color combo.

When I was searching, I was able to get a few offers here in NY/NJ for $380-$399 for an Altitude with sunroof (MSRP $42K) so I don’t see the need to deal with a dealer so far away.

If you don’t absolutely need leather seats, maybe consider the Upland since it’s cheaper.

is the $5500 manufacturer rebates? If so, it looks like the only discount off MSRP that the dealership is giving you is on the first two lines. Assuming that’s correct, that’s only a $1,550 discount off MSRP from the dealership. I’m not sure what is standard for this vehicle, but I certainly think you could do better. Also, it doesn’t sound like you’ve negotiated at all yet, so never in the history of car sales, has the first offer been their best offer. I’d suggest you do some reading on the forums to see what kind of discounts people in the forums are getting off MSRP. Then ask for that discount. If you like the price, meeting them somewhere in the middle. But to get a good deal requires lots of negotiation.

I just love that rhino. Nice look! Yes I would like the leather and larger rims so altitude it is.

Gotcha. Just FYI they both feature 20” black rims.

But like I said, you can def score sub $400/month on the Altitude. I got a quote for $380/month on Honcker and again it was for the $42k Altitude.

It’s $2500 manufacture rebates and the remaining corporate and military discount. I didn’t counter or negotiate yet. I just asked for an itemized list of how he arrived at that figure.

I wanted to get an idea of what price that I should be striving for, before negotiating down further.

Is there a target price point?

Ok ty I will check out Honcker.

The best way to figure out a target price point is to either read around the forums or to get quotes from multiple dealers and keep trying to push down the purchase price. It’s not unheard of for people to get 10-20% discounts off MSRP BEFORE manufacturer incentives, but I don’t know what is typical for this vehicle.

It is 100% recommended that you do not tell the dealer that you qualify for any manufacturer discounts until AFTER you’ve cut your deal. You should shoot to push the discount off MSRP as low as possible, and then once you agree on that number, tell them you qualify for corporate and military. Often times sales people love dealing with people that have those discounts because it looks like you’re getting a great deal, but there’s still room in your deal to negotiate… The dealer will basically take a cut of your manufacturer rebates.

You can figure out invoice pricing by adding up options and model here:

Their holdback is 5% of invoice, so you can figure out what their actual cost is.

It looks like they’re selling to you at invoice, which isn’t that great of a deal, imo. It means they’re pocketing about $2000 from the sale plus another $700 from the “processing fee”.

This was a deal I did a year ago on a custom ordered 2018.

That was before any incentives (but did include the tread lightly affiliate program). They still made 1% plus doc fees from that sale, so there was likely room to go even lower, especially if you’re clearing out a last model year that’s in inventory.

Note: I’ve yet to get a dealership to actually tell me how the tread lightly affiliate program works on their end, (half of them don’t even know what it is), so there could have been even more money left on the table in my deal.

Do you have any interior pics of the Upland. Im curious what the differences are between the altitude and Upland.

The main diff is that the Altitude the nav 8.4” screen and leather/suede seats while the Upland has cloth seats with blue stitching inside. In my opinion, it wasn’t worth paying more for leather and nav since I don’t appreciate leather and use my phone as nav. Plus I got the Upland with sunroof.

This video provides excellent info (same color I got Rhino):
