Been email some dealers for a 2020 BMW 540i. Msrp has been in the 68-70k range. Mainly want m sport and the lux seating package. For some reason I’ve been getting quotes worse then a few months ago. Many dealers are claiming is cause current times and less inventory.
Is this true? I would’ve thought since sales have sank that deals would be getting thrown around left and right. Any opinions on how to go after dealers who do not wanna give big discounts on 5 series anymore.
In most industries you are correct. Apparently the car buying industry doesn’t work like that. They do it ass backwards. Sales are booming, they lower prices, give more incentives, negotiate. When sales are dead they tighten up. Apparently they get compensated/bonus off units moved so if they are not moving a bunch they have no desire to offer deals. Makes no sense to me but not my industry and cars will continue to sit.
Edmunds said today that April car sales were worst month ever in over 30 years. According to a lot of dealers/brokers on this site sales are booming and they are having an incredible April.
When you read about BMW sales being down 20-30% and they’re expecting worse to come you’d expect dealers to give deals to move some units would you not?
Yes, I am seeing this is the reality. Guess I’ll have to just sit for a little and wait for things to clear up. Bad timing for my lease to expire this next month but not gonna pay a markup for a car that will be a year old soon.
Crazy to think sales down so much and dealers not making deals. Seems like business 101. Units will set sit or they will find a sucker I guess.
Residuals have gotten worse on bmw the last few months. We were seeing sub 300 payments on x1/x2/3 series. Sub 400 on x3/4 series. Those deals aren’t available anymore from what I’ve been seeing. I have a $235/mo X2 and had a 328d for 250/mo. I wish I could still find bmw deals like that. With that said bmw is still leasing pretty well compared to other “luxury” brands.
Just curious but what type of pre-incentive discount were you offered? I have seen some East Coast brokers offer 13% off MSRP on all new 2020 BMWs. Not sure about socal brokers in the Marketplace.
Between 7-9% from my calculations. Dealers telling me no incentive to sell cars at big discount anymore since they’re not getting any in anytime soon. I had 2 sales GM today tell me they’re trying to make the most possible on these cars as they don’t know how long it will be until the next shipment comes in for them.
Well BMW woke up and decided to exit their cave of denial to sniff the coffee. They are offering 2 payment credits for loyalty customers on top of existing incentives. 4 series and under $500x2 5 and 6 series $750x2 and 7 and 8 $1,250x2. Good things come to those who are patient.
My spidey senses tell me June will be even better but this is good enough for me, I’m not passing this up. I’ll be making my move this month. Good luck
