Only $5,000 EV Credit for BMW Loaner/Demos?

Looking for some info bout the EV tax credit. I found a 2024 demo i5 at my local dealership and presented an offer. I got a response telling me they want to make the deal, but the tax credit is only $5000 for loaners. I responded telling the salesman that I had a couple quotes on other i5 demos (from LH brokers that didn’t have all the options I wanted, so I’m shopping around still) and they included the full $7500. He responded “ Our BMW system allows us to plug in this specific vin and it tells us the exact rebates the car qualifies for. I only get paid if I sell cars so I can assure you if it was available on this car I would give it to you.”

I plan to continue to try to work the deal tomorrow and I don’t want to offend the dealer further, but this is the first I’ve heard of this. Is it true for some VIN numbers? If not, what else can I say to get the full credit? Or should I just push for more off the MSRP to compensate for the $2500 (not sure they’ll go for it)? Or how do I get offered dealer cash that apparently they have this month? I don’t qualify for conquest or loyalty, so missing out on $2500 of the EV credit kills my target payment.

So what deal they offering you ?
Lease numbers .

I presented an offer of 19% discount off the $79000 MSRP for a 36 month, 10,000 mile lease for $619 a month with $1544 due at signing. The response was they wanted to make the deal, but were advising me of the $5000 EV credit and asking if I wanted to proceed. Based on that, I’m assuming they’re taking my offer if I accept that the credit is only $5000 and the increase in payment. I am supposed to go in tomorrow to finalize, so I am seeking advice on if this is true and how to proceed.

Not entirely sure on an i5, but on a demo iX the credit/rebate is $5900, not the $9900 that is available on a new iX, so it definitely could be true.

Look inside Marketplace listings that have LH calculator links.

And I had a dealer insist a 2024 demo iX has no credit. Edmunds forum said $7500. Ashleigh said $5900.

I don’t know what to believe anymore.

I did and the calculator has the full $7500. I don’t know what to do to convince the dealer if they say it isn’t true. Ugh!

So you feel my pain!

I don’t believe the calculators show the loaner incentives, only new. I trust what the brokers here say, certainly not the dealer.

i5 loners are eligible for the $7500 credit. @LuxEvMe, did you reach out to me?

You never will so move on.

Haha, yeah, that is confusing. I haven’t looked in last month or two, but late summer-through fall the demo credit on iX was consistently $5900 (both from brokers and when I talked to a dealership or two about ones)

Correct. $5900 is what I got in March ‘24 on a ‘23 demo.

I did some time ago for an i4, but my brother made an impulse decision and bought a C300 off the lot…he regrets it lol. Now I’m looking for an i5 for myself. Seems all the brokers only have M60s or 40s without Msport, so trying locally.

Yea, you’re probably right. I refused to come in without them confirming it. I’ve been waiting about 3 hours now for a response. The deal is likely dead.

I have some! Please feel free to reach out again.

It’s also a Saturday in the last 10 days of the year where 75 plus buyers are in the showroom thinking they are going to haggle their way into unicorn territory, which as you know, takes time. Most likely the dealer is convinced they can make more money off someone else than they can from you.

Very true. But I didn’t get the feeling my offer is an issue, they’re game for that as long as I’m good with the $5000 credit. We will see.

You have Premium, Msport, and DAP at 19% off pre-incentive? From what I could tell on LH those flew off the lots over the past two weeks.

Not at 19% off but they’re also brand new. Let’s see what we can work out.
