The $500/month deal you referenced had an effective payment of over $700/month. You’re comparing apples and oranges and making bad points. It reads as envy rather than any meaningful addition to the conversation.
Edit: Correction, true effective without disposition on the referenced deal is $697. A far cry from $500 and even still, certainly not representative of what a regular hacker should expect to obtain.
Nothing he’s saying is coming across as envious. And it’s literally the same crowd that he’s referring to that are getting offended. I completely get his point. The deals aren’t fantastic deals once you factor in a $7,000 payment. But every time one is posted you have the usuals applauding them. You can say what the effective is and make it seem like a great deal because it’s less than the marketplace. What happens if that car gets totaled after the first month? That $7,000 is effectively gone! People are nuts to take these deals over but like my Pop says, “there’s an ass for every seat”. Why is that in the “Ask the Hackrs” section, it’s common knowledge not to do a down payment, but in this section it’s considered a great deal?
There is nothing stopping you from putting in the work, taking on the very real risk, pissing off your wife (who knows? Mine is happy with it ), and having a non-functional driveway that becomes car Tetris every single day you need to charge your terrible $680/month EQB deal (check my posts).
Seriously though, if you’ve got a better deal to show the community that’s available to them, by all means point them in that direction. Making generalizations about good/bad deals and poorly quoting effective payments isn’t going to sway anyone actually paying attention.
And many of us post free deals for the community! I mean come on man what more do you want?
I do fully understand the point you’re making, and I’ve explained to people that it all comes down to acceptable risk. Is it worth it to risk that much money up front to ultimately save just as much? That’s a question only the buyer can answer.
I truly explain everything to my potential buyers and I’ve even guided many rogue callers from SAL to LH for their next deal. I’m posting on what I believe are fantastic deals to bump them for those willing to take on a moderate risk for a major reward. If people didn’t agree the cars wouldn’t move. Especially here.
I’m leasing one for $100 and it’s been a disaster my cars been at the dealership for over a month waiting for a HV battery still no eta when battery will get here.
you’re replying to the wrong guy, but I’ll chime in anyway
Those who spent a bit of time on this site, see the pattern, and personally - I couldn’t care less. The tactic existed since the first humans started trading with each other. This perennial circle jerk helps keep the threads alive, generates views and moves the cars. On the few deals that I was involved in, I tried to filter the noise and judge the deal on its merit and opportunity cost. However there are deals live right now that are comparable to prior trades, and they get no love from the “community”. Maybe because the seller is not part of the “circle of trust” or is one-off and any comments to promote their sale won’t be reciprocal. But it does look a bit disingenuous, and you can tell that many feel this way.
It IS a great deal for someone unwilling or unable to follow the guidance provided here. As you well know, most of the people that come here for advice simply do not follow it for one reason or another (usually due to their stubbornness or preconceived notions).
As far as totaling the i7, it’s extremely unlikely given both weight and market value of the vehicle. And you have a small claims option to be made whole if it’s someone else’s fault. Is it better to avoid all of this? Yes, but we’re back at square one where most people will not heed an advice.
I wish I could get similar deals in FL. But shipping the car then the shenanigans BMW plays when you need to return the lease, keep me at bay. BMW bamboozled me on my iX lease and is requiring me to return the vehicle to the dealership where I got it. Never in my life of leasing have I heard such nonsense. Luxury indeed…
BMW corporate basically said it was the discretion of the dealership. They claimed that the dealership refused to allow lease drop off in another location. I’ve never heard of such nonsense before, but this may be the end of my relationship with BMW moving forward.
Well to me that means after i do my inspection they can come pick their damn car up. I don’t know how far it is but simply put show me in damn writing this policy on my contract, on website yadda yadda. And if you guys want to be the idiots then come pick your car up. It’s not even theirs, it’s bmwfs at that point. Don’t let them push you around without putting in real work. And it’s one bad apple of a dealer. All these companies are the same regardless… they will value their relationship with a business that has 1000 of their cars over one customer, but sometimes they will give good customer service, sometimes no. But this is a “dealer policy”. Then email the manager and cc bmwfs that you’ve completed your contract with bmwfs, that you’ve never had to go thru this before on a lease return and if they are leaving it with the dealership then they can arrange shipping/picking up the vehicle. You will contact a lawyer, local police department saying bmwfs has dumped their car on my property, i don’t want it and for it to be towed away
You don’t necessarily have to be done with the brand perse… but I’d certainly never give business to that dealership again
During COVID times, I had a Volvo that was a great deal, and I didn’t want to give it back. I just kept paying the monthly payment until they sent someone to pick it up (pretty much got repoed without the credit hit). If BMWFS wants their car, tell them to pick it up from you. Just make sure to keep paying so it’s not a “collections” matter. Oh, and leave that dealer a nice 1 star. In fact, post them here so we all can.
Nice car, but sharing honest feedback: $6k DAS on a 35mo lease kills it for most people that lurk here. Effective monthly is decent, but rule of thumb for good leases is to risk the lowest DAS as possible.
Hi – did you go through with the deal? If so, are you able to tell me which dealer you worked with? I’m in the market for exactly what you discussed in your post.
The incentive is basically way too high. Market is saying that already hence the car is sitting. I know slots of good discussion was thrown into separate thread which is fine.
