Ah yes being pro-free market is now left wing. Do you even hear yourself speak? Do you even know what the words “left-wing” means anymore? Hint, socialists LOVE tariffs. It was Bernie Sanders’ favorite word in the 80s and 90s, while the GOP was pro-free trade.
The buyer doesn’t win anything when a rapid price spike and economic uncertainly leads to a major recession. That’s called demand destruction. Not to mention plenty of countries have tried using tariffs to develop domestic industries, none of them succeeded.
Nobody cares about your special snowflake 70s car they made ten of. The average American car was a chevy or ford sedan that lasted about 5 years before being crushed.
But whatever, I’ve already unloaded most of my rental properties and I’m sitting in bonds. When your house gets foreclosed on it’ll be people like me buying it at the auction for half off. Apparently being pro-capitalism makes me left wing now. You gotta be trolling.

TL:DR - benefits fraud is incredibly complex. Can’t be solved by 5 Doge bros in 2 weeks.
Funny store, I have a lot of experience working on fraud issues for HHS and SSA. I do know where a lot of the fraud is and since HHS and SSA are big parts of the budget this fraud matters a lot.
But it’s not like the prior administrations, including say Trump 45, was just like ooh this fraud is fun let’s keep it in place. No the fraud is really hard to weed out. It’s medical providers billing Medicare for services they don’t provide. It’s people working under the table on social security disability and on social security retirement - prior to to full retirement age. It’s fake or corrupt doctors providing documentation to get people disability who don’t qualify.
Most of the fraud is on a super micro level so takes numerous small scale investigations to even keep it to a reasonable level. Which is expensive and resource intensive. And it turns out strong anti-fraud action ends up causing some pain which makes fighting fraud even harder.
Best example of this is there there was a corrupt social security judge in Huntington WV - see apple TV movie The Big Conn for basic story. Lawyer, mostly without clients knowledge, was bribing judge to get them on disability. When SSA found out it it pulled benefits from everyone who got benefits through this lawyer and told them to reapply. But congress got super upset that these disability reciepents were treated unfairly and everyone was reinstated on benefits. An incredibly complex process was started to readjudicate the cases and 13 years later the process is still ongoing.
The basic issue is the best way to fight HHS/SSA fraud is to make it harder for Americans to access benefits. Adding many more hurdles before accessing medical services or SSA benefits. But those checks would make those programs harder to navigate.
Also the uncomfortable truth is we would need to put a LOT of people in jail. If you don’t have any money, risk of a financial penalty isn’t a deterrent. The only deterrent is a long prison sentence.
