%Off MSRP on BMW Custom Order

Dear fellow Hackrs, thanks for the invaluable information in this forum. I’ve found it very informative and fun to read.

I have a lease maturing in September and I’m shopping for my next one. As I don’t believe BMWFS is offering pull-ahead programs anymore, I’m considering placing an order for a custom built 540i.

So far, I’ve been offered 9% off MSRP before incentives, which is significantly lower than the 11-12% off on existing inventory.

Has anybody been able to hack better terms on BMW custom orders recently? I’m in SoCal.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I asked this recently and I think the best response I got was effectively “depends on the dealer, depends on the car”

Wasn’t aware there was a 540e! Do you mean 530e? If so, 11% is good and 13% is great. You might try for more than that as dealer won’t incur much holding cost if at all and it’d be a “guaranteed” sale. I recently got just over 16% on an aged unit personally but that deal was obviously highly motivated.

Thanks Electric. Meant to say 540i.

More or less the same for any 5 other than M5 or M550.

Thanks! The dealers that I’ve been talking to tell me that the trunk money they get is lower for an order than for a unit in inventory. That’s why they are not as motivated to discount even though their cost and risk with a custom order would be lower.

Not sure on that part but I suppose it makes sense… Are you not able to find a car configured to your liking in existing inventory and do dealer trade/go to dealer that has the car you want?

My main motivation for doing the custom order is to try to align getting an aggressive deal on a 2019 540i with specs I like with the end of my current lease in September.

That deal will be hard to replicate. I can try though.

Oh I see. Trying to beat the G30 LCI countdown…heh.

I just heard from a couple of dealers that BMW has already started production of the 2020 models so 2019 models can no longer be ordered.

That is correct.

Greetings fellow Hackrs,

What do you think is a reasonable discount off MSRP before incentives on a 2020 5-series custom order?

Most offers have come at invoice (6% off MSRP) + a profit for the dealer between $500-750 before incentives.

After lengthy negotiations, the best I’ve been able to get is 10% off MSRP before incentives at base MF.

What do you guys think? Anybody has been able to do better than that?

Look forward to your feedback.

On a custom order, 10% is probably the best you’re going to do.

I’ve gotten 14.3% before incentive in the NE region. Yes, on a custom order.

No “pm me” posts per site rules

Hackrs,

I just inquired in the Edmunds forum regarding lease support for 2020 BMW 5-Series. While the residual and MF are the same than for 2019 models, there does not seem to be any lease incentives nor loyalty at this time.

Do you know if this is typical for BMW and how soon do they normally start offering it?

I doubt many people in this community would pull the trigger without incentives.

Thanks!

Since there are still 19s on the lot, it’s not surprising there is little to no lease incentive cash, as they will want to move the older units first. As far as when it will be offered…depends on how popular it is, and how many 19s remain on the lot. Think supply and demand.

Lease support is available, as they can be leased. Lease incentives are not, however.

Hi Everyone,

In continuing to do my research on the custom order for a 2020 5-series, I came across a dealer in the Mid-Atlantic region willing to do 12% off MSRP before incentives on custom orders. If anybody’s interested, message me and I’ll be happy to share details.

As for me, I’m going to wait until incentives improve on the 2020 models

Sounds solid for refreshed model but incentives are sucktastic compared to 2019 as you said!

How much is an aged unit, 6-8 months, 12 months or longer?
