I’m a NY resident who leased a car in MA. The MA dealership can’t let me drive off with the car because MA does not provide temporary plates. I will have to wait for a 3rd party to facilitate the DMV registration/plates, which according to them may take up to 2 weeks. Meanwhile, I am paying insurance and first month without a car. Is there anything I can do expedite the process? Does NY issue temp plates that I can use on the new car while the registration is taken care of?
NY has a pretty decent official DMV site…have you tried looking there?
Interesting. When I was looking at perhaps traveling to MA from N.J. for a lease recently, they told me over the phone that they don’t deal with out of state buyers. Doesn’t rly make sense bc it’s a small State surrounded by many other states…
I don’t quite get how MA doesn’t issue temps… do dealers there just have stands of hard plates and do the DMV work in house?
