I’m about to sign a mercedes lease deal. I notice something unusual. The deal agreement is $2000 drive-off, $501 monthly installment, but in every paper I see, the installment is $542, and in “pre-contract disclosure”, I notice there are two add-ons (term care: $1300, phantom footprint: $149). Am I being tricked? Are these two items removable?
Welcome.
When you say, “… about to sign,” I hope you don’t mean that you’re at the dealership right now?
You can ask for those two items to be removed, but the dealership might decline (at which point, you may wish to decline moving forward, as well).
No one can comment if you’re being “tricked” w/o knowing much more about your proposed deal (incl the model and MSRP, lease terms like duration and mileage limit, etc.).
Thanks for replying. I’m doing e-sign right now. So I can stop anytime.
2023 EQS 450+ SUV
MSRP: 110710
Lease term: 24 months, 7500 miles/year
Drive off: $9100 ($2000 drive-off, $6500 max MSD, $600 shipping from NorCal to SoCal)
Monthly installment: $501 before tax
I’m good with the above deal, but when I e-sign, I don’t see $501 anywhere, but I see $542. I asked the dealer, but his response was vague.
The monthly payment is post-tax.
Term care is what? If it’s something like a service plan you can cancel it in CA.
Phantom footprint is VIN etch but $149 shouldn’t stop you from doing this deal. It’s definitely not mandatory.
What does your LH calc show for payment?
That’s what I initially thought, too, but then why would the dealer be vague about explaining something so simple?
The $1300 “term care” does make a big difference on your payment. The other minor charge doesn’t. I’d inquire as to what exactly is “term care?”
