New BMW G87 M2 options

Wondering if anyone can break down the process of ordering a BMW from factory. With the recent leaks on the new M2 people have been iffy with the design but I’m all for it (half and half on the rear). What steps do I have to take to order one? Thanks

AFAIK ordering guide isn’t out yet and neither are allocations.

You’ll want to get in line for an allocation. Each dealer is different and its dealer’s discretion. My advice is to get on as many lists as you’re comfortable with as long as they have a refundable deposit. Allocations are supposedly based on how many M cars the dealer sold previously so being #5 at a large dealer might be better than #2 at a small dealer.

Once the build guide gets released, spec out your build and send to each dealer. They should add it to the order bank and contact you when they have an allocation available. The allocation just means you get a production number and build week which could still change. Once the car goes into production, non changes can be made. Then you just wait for it to show up.

Depending where you live, you could request performance center delivery (PCD) where the vehicle gets delivered to the Performance Center in South Carolina. No charge for this option and if it’s convenient for you it means you could order from a dealer anywhere in the country and pick up at the Performance center. I believe you get a free meal, maybe a night of hotel, and get to do a few laps (not in your new car, in one of the PC vehicles)

Be very clear with each dealer how much they’re charging, MSRP or above, etc. When the OG M2 came out it was mayhem with markups to get an allocation on an M2 but they were easily available at or slightly below MSRP a few years later. I gave up in 2016 when the F87 was released and then walked into a dealer a few years later and they had one just sitting there.

G87 M2 is slated for production for several years, so unless you’re dying to have one right away, it’s not going anywhere. Bimmerpost is a good resource for more info. I believe production is slated through 2027 or 2029.

Ordering guide isn’t out just yet

If you really want to be one of the first to get an M2, you definitely need to place a deposit with a dealer.

Unless we are hit with a major recession, you are likely to wait at least until next Summer/Fall to take delivery. I am number 1 at my dealer’s waitlist and I locked that spot back in April. Today the list behind me is over 10+ people deep and likely will get deeper after the official reveal next month. Start of production is December so we will probably see the order guide some time in October and first allocations will hit around November/December. Deliveries to start in March/April timeframe. Definitely call all your local dealers to find out about their G87 waitlists and secure a spot before the official reveal and the hype it might bring.

Call dealers, put a deposit down and get on a waitlist(or two).

It hasn’t even debuted. Oct 12th is the official debut.

Production starts Dec 2022, first deliveries Spring 2023.

Almost all dealers will have a had a wait list for months now. If you are not on one, you are likely a year+ from getting a car.

oh yeah i saw those as soon as reddit/bimmerpost got their hands on it, but i want to see how bmw can salvage it lol

The launch color isn’t helping things. Plus the camera used is distorting things a little. A pic of the rear was leaked weeks ago, not so much dislike back then.

Different color and proper pics will be the true test.

At least it doesn’t have the M4 beaver teeth face, that is so awful.

A year ? Think that is a little excessive but I guess we will see and obviously depends on details.

The beaver teeth look is kind of growing on me. I noticed they used the same design on the i4, even though the grill on the i4 is solid/purely cosmetic.

That is the reason the M3/M4 got “used” like a cheap suit, to introduce their controversial i-model giant vertical grill styling. They had to make the grills mainstream before they launched the new EV’s. They really did the M3/M4 dirty. BMW has said the vertical grills give i-models something to integrate all the self driving sensors into.

I like my G80 just fine. This new M2 looks bad but wait for the proper reveal

Remains to be seen if the M2 will retain all the interior and packages of the G80. While BMW said there will be less decontenting, it still remains to be seen if the same seats and colors, HUD, etc all get offered. Also, we don’t know how much cheaper the M2 will be. This generation might be different, a nicely optioned M240i xdrive isn’t that much cheaper than an M340i

Sorry for being nosey, but I have to ask as I’ve been calling up countless dealers: were you able to nail down an agreement at MSRP?

Yes, buying at MSRP. I am a longtime customer of theirs though, bought 6 cars from them in the last 2 years.

Update: Spent the day calling every socal dealer to no success and slowly worked my way up California. I was either hit with “We’re actually not going to be receiving any M2s” or “To be honest with you we don’t have a waitlist going or a available.” One dealership told me excitedly that they’ll send over my build sheet via email (interesting considering the car hasn’t even debuted yet), but obviously nothing was received in my inbox.

Open to approach suggestions.

Pretty sure I just saw one
