I don’t know why this hasn’t been said before but - I suggest you “Escalade” this issue.
Sorry to hear about the issues.
Like others have said here’s what I would do:
-Research state lemon laws so you know what criteria is needed. Speak to lemon lawyer as well to get a contact. Almost certainly they won’t be able to fix it before the time is up.
-Ask for replacement vehicle ASAP or manufacturer buy back. Don’t settle for reimbursement. If you can afford an Escalade a token payment of $10k or whatever doesn’t move the needle as the value will drop due to this repair.
-If they balk then invoke lemon law. They will buy it back then because it looks worse for a car to be lemon’d than bought back.
-In the meantime don’t sweat making payments even if driving Suburban because you will get the money back one way or the other.
I had problems with the Jeep I purchased in 2021, and it was at the dealer for an issue that ended up being a recall and when I complained to Chrysler/Jeep I was reimbursed for payments made during that period, they paid for the loaner veh so that I could be in a consistent car, 4 new tires and extended the warranty by two years.
Update required
Absolutely. Had same issue with my BMw. Vall corporate and talk to them, you not suppose to pay anything, it is not your fault
I am in the process of going thru GM corporate. My request has been to buy back the car and put me in a same spec and build vehicle or give me all my money back. I do not want the same car back. I spoke with the dealership and told them the same thing and that anything they can do to move the needle in that direction will be appreciated. Now I’m waiting. It’s been already 2 weeks since the car broke down. I’ll call them again next week for an update.
Thank you all for the insight. Really appreciated!!

Was wondering if you received any resolution on this…
We are in a very similar situation, but 2021 Sport Platinum Escalade ESV with less that 35K miles on it. We are now out a car for an unforeseeable future. They have agreed to take on our car payments, but now I’m questioning if keeping the car is in our favor.
i’m hope you folks get a resolution in your favor crazy to see the 6.2 failing after so many generations of same design and literally the same engine
i used beat the crap out of those 6.2s on my camaro lt1 and 2015 yukon and they were perfectly reliable so sad quality is down this bad
OP never confirmed if it was 3.0 Duramax or 6.2. The Duramax has been known to have a few common issues.
Any updates?
Hi,
My brand new Escalade that I paid 10k over sticker at 135k just blew the engine traveling with my family from Florida to Boston in Savanna Georgia…16000 miles on it . Leased it in Feb 2023. I’m only on day 2 and had to rent a suv to get home to Boston while my truck is in Georgia. They say after the engine is replaced they will ship it to Boston at my home. I’m very concerned about the reliability of it going forward as we go back-and-forth to Florida twice a year. Any thoughts on what anybody would do can I trust the vehicles gonna be OK or should I fight with GM to replace it?
Thank you
Joe
Well I’m in same boat as you but with Mercedes. Mercedes isn’t doing anything BUT luckily for you, GM stands behind their products
I would call GM and/or GM financial if you are financing with them. They will def help you out with paying for interest on vehicle or even partial payments.
Oddly enough my Mercedes if financed with GM financial. I told them my situation and they are going to defer my payments till car is fixed and are covering interest till I get car back. They didn’t have to do that because that’s Mercedes job.
Replace it with what, another of their vehicles that you cannot trust to make your biannual Florida trip?
Anyway talk to a lemon law attorney. Fighting with GM by yourself sounds like a waste of time.
I have friends with that car and love it
I would definitely ask for a replacement with a discount
That’s not really the point though. If someone has lost faith in a product then it doesn’t really matter how much other people like it.
If there’s a design flaw in the engine, then it doesn’t really matter whether you get a new engine in the old chassis or a new engine in a new chassis. You’re going to have the same probability of the next engine failing.
Best to know where one stands, regarding what rights the law gives you. Most states it’s free to talk to a LL attorney so aside from some time what does he have to lose?
6.2l?
Camaros are having the same issue, most of them are lifter failure (yay afm/dod/etc)
The solution is to yank the lifter disable dod and replace them with rollers, but there goes your warranty…if you bought the vehicle that would be the way to go, but on a lease let them keep replacing engines
Ya I just know those are a long drawn out process.
Might be able to deal better in house
Warranty is the same either way
If you bought thr vehicle, you coupd swap lifters etc
As its a lease, you would have to return it tonstick before turning the vehicle in
HI!
I too have a 2023 Escalade Sport Platinum (ESV) purchased November 2022…engine SEIZED at 1500 miles in February 2023! Completely dead as we were traveling in the Hollywood hills. Very loud banging and then just died.
Beverly Hills Cadillac was utterly useless and cost me a 2nd tow…just had to put that out there, worst dealership, spare yourselves. Anyway, Casa de Cadillac was very accommodating and apologetic. Had me in a loaner same day.
30 days later had a new engine installed. Took it home, was misfiring one cylinder…cracked spark plug. (By the way saw the invoice from Casa to GM corporate and it was $25K!)
After the spark plug was replaced it ran ok…then it would not restart after auto start/stop at an intersection. Take your foot off brake pedal and all the electronics would go crazy, no restart. Turns out the battery was then toast. I think maybe because they either kept trying to start it with a seized motor or let it go completely dead during repair. July 2023 … new battery, that problem resolved.
Next issue, we noticed the steering wheel wood trim color is not the same as the dash. BH Cadillac said they are all that way. Perhaps in that model year but anyway we got a notice for a recall on the issue.
Definitely questioning GM quality…
Last week I noticed they didn’t tighten down one of the hood bolts from when they (I assume) removed the hood to replace the engine. So I’ll be going back for the 5th time now.
Did I mention that when I took delivery of the car it had a broken windshield??? Of course the 1st replacement windshield was chipped. So had to wait for another.
It is a wonderful car and is currently driving fine. But man has it been a long road. Anyone know someone who can perform an exorcism?
