Negotiating Residual Value (RV) with Dealer

If a dealer deflates the RV- can I just tell them that the actual or correct RV% for that specific model is what I found out at Edmunds forum or here. And they have to accept/ can’t refute that because it’s coming from the correct source (Blackbook / ALG/Finance Company)? Will it end the discussion for that part of the calculation?

Any experience doing this would be helpful

I recommend reading the Leasing 101 article to better understand how leasing works. A higher RV is beneficial, but it’s not adjustable.

Dealers cannot inflate RV. It’s regional and set by the banks.

ahh yes - I just fixed that - I meant deflate

The dealer can not adjust the RV one way or another. It’s set by the bank.

You cannot negotiate the residual value at ANY time. It is set by the bank and a contract will be rejected if the residual value is incorrect. You cannot negotiate it at the end of the lease either (you signed a contract).

Heres some articles for you to read to get a basic understanding…

That is the position I am in and figuring out the RV is confounding me!

Well offering no info in regards to the car make model and miles will give you no answer

What car is it?

In addition to what the other posters said, the algorithm for adjusting the RV for demos for some brands is known to forum posters.

So, if you post the info about make, model, miles, some of the posters will be able to help you determine if the dealer is calculating the adjusted RV correctly.

It is a 2018 S60 T5 FWD dynamic the MSRP was: 38,890…they are taking 12,000 off, so the new MSRP is: 26,890. I want to know what to go in expecting and pushing for…what is the correct RV for 24/10 or 36/10…and how much ‘play’ on price is there left? -first time poster, long time lurker

Residual multiplies MSRP, not sales price. Ask Edmunds forums for residuals for your area and miles/years.

Are 2018 S60s even leasable still? I doubt it.

Well that should be an easy one: There’s no lease support on 2018s as far as I’m aware. Purchase only at this point.

Ah! That solves it. BMW still leases 2018s. I assumed they all did, my mistake. Thanks for the help.
