I am planning to turn in my existing lease and get another car at the end of this month.
The dealer that sold me car is in New York and I learnt from BMW that dealers from
New York can not do Lease Inspection.
So, I took the car to a local BMW dealership for LEASE inspection , the guy just noted down the car’s VIN and number of miles and said everything is good and asked me to sign a document on his iPad . Everything was done under a minute.
I have asked him to check the tires ( since they were 4/32 during my last service that was done 2 months ago) . I also told him there are few scratches and asked if he can take a look at them as well. this guy again stares at the car from a distance and says everything is good. No matter what i ask , He kept saying everything is good without actually looking at the car.
Now what i am supposed do ?
Should i take it to another BMW dealer for another round of inspection (OR) have it done by AutoVIN ?
OR
Use this report to argue with BMW at a later point if they ding me for something ?
Isn’t this the guy who’s going to ding you?
Sounds like he’s giving his approval of the condition of your car. Not sure why you want him to find the faults.
Just turn it in at your local dealer who did the inspection. You don’t have to go back to NY.
FWIW, I always get the AutoVin report, but if this dealer you went to already gave you an official inspection, so be it.
I am planning to return this car to a dealer from where i will get another lease ,
I think that may help waiving any possible wear and tear costs compared to dropping off the car at one dealer and getting new car from another dealer ? this is my first lease and have not been through this process before
I have experience with this. I returned BMW twice. 1st time guy was like this, said all is ok and I was not experienced, so I walked away, later got bill from BMW FS for 600 bucks for really tiny scratch on bumper.
Next time guy also quickly looked and said ok, but he gave me to sign in Ipad and printed leasing inspection form which stated that all ok(there was more issues then that tiny scratch) and I was not billed anything.
So make sure you ask for leasing inspection form which states clearly that everything is ok
Dealers don’t inspect lease turn-ins, they process a return (odometer statement/keys/signature).
Get an inspection done by AutoVIN.
You can return the car to any dealer. Obviously easier to turn it in when you’re picking up a new lease, but if it’s the same brand you’re still eligible for any trade in incentives or excess wear and tear as long as you lease a new one within the timeframe of turning in the old one, usually 30 days
