My current lease expires soon, and I potentially need a car for just 6 months after expiration, before I move out of the country. My original preference was to extend my lease but I’m finding out it’s only extendable for a month. Any suggestions?
I know popular wisdom is to get a cheap used car and sell it at more or less a same price after 6 months, but I do not have time or energy to handle that. So looking for a reasonable alternative even if it’s not THE best deal in town.
Rental cars look way too expensive for the value. Micro lease from AutoNation looked somewhat promising but I don’t know whether they’re too bad of a deal to consider. Taking over a lease, or…?
Not particular about the car, mostly looking for no-negotiation, no-surprise, straightforward transaction. Would appreciate input!
It’s going to take far more time and energy and hassle to try and get out of a lease in 6 months than it is to buy and sell a cheap used car. There’s no magic solution for your situation and unfortunately all of your options are going to be fairly expensive in the short term.
I suspect most people underestimate the time it takes to find a credit worthy buyer for a lease transfer. For example (see below).
And it’s one thing to transfer an extra car at your leisure but what are the chances the transfer timing lines up exactly right? You can’t transfer it too early because you’ll still need a car, especially right before leaving the country when there’s so many loose ends to tie up. And obviously can’t leave it too late either.
