Hi everyone,
My old car broke here and there several times from last year so I decided to purchase a new car. Order was placed but seems the factory will take a while to build and deliver the car and the waiting time is uncertain.
So I need a temporary car between now and when the new car will be delivered. I was thinking to take over someone else’s lease but there is almost nothing I can find within my budget. I just need the car with monthly payment as little as possible. Also I was thinking to lease a car then ask Carvana or Carmax to buyout when new car arrives, but seems like there are many brands don’t allow 3rd party buyout at this moment. (Will Mazda allow it ?)
Would you share some recommendations please? Thank you in advance
This has been discussed if you search. Based on your timeframe (any lease swap takes weeks-to-months to process), I’d look at a monthly rental from one of the rental car companies. Or look at something like Turo to see what’s available.
Thank you for the advise. I searched Turo and rental company as well, but it cost too much , at lease 2K per month…
I would keep looking there and expand your search. Those prior threads have some strategies for discounts on long term rental cars.
Thank you, I will search those threads as well
Roughly speaking, what numbers are you trying to hit or stay at?
I gave up trying for this - basically short-term Volvo for around 700-800 or Sixt monthlies were cheapest I could find, nothing in the 300-400 range. Don’t bang your head against the wall thinking you’re missing something obvious, it’s hard out there for anything short term.
I am expecting under 500 per month…
Sorry to hear that. It’s really a hard time out there and my old car is breaking at same time…
What part of NY are you in? Are you talking to managers at in-town (not airport) rental car locations?
Based on 200+ days/year in rentals 2007-2019, the number of places $500/mo with tax could be counted on one hand (before supply became an issue). But it shouldn’t be anywhere close to $2k
Silly question, but why did you do a factory order if you were in such a predicament? Surely you could have found an alternative of an in stock car you like?
Lease a Jeep Wrangler 48/10 lease for about $300
Buick century could be had for $2k driven by grandpa which should get you through these months and you could sell it for the same money after you done.
Yea given the parameters and restrictions here. Probably better off buying something used and selling when done.
In NYC / Long island area. I thought rental location at airport has largest inventory and best price before… I will search other locations in city to compare the price…
Airport locations are going to be subject to airport taxes. In many places it’s an extra ~10%
The car on dealer’s lot are expensive , dealer add thousands dollar markup on them. The one I ordered is the one sold below the invoice and seems ok for my requirement.
Can be 30% or more in many airport locations… off-airport is the only way to go if you have the flexibility
Also for the OP - do you need a car continuously or just for stretches of days and maybe a week here and there at a time. Could make a huge difference.
Not sure if it will more reliable than my current car
What is this mystery car?
